Judge Blackwood orders new trials in Christian/Newsom torture slayings

KNOXVILLE — An order has been filed ordering new trials for the defendants in a January 2007 torture slaying, according to John Gill, special counsel to Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols.

This comes despite a request from prosecutors that Special Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood recuse himself from the case of the killings of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

. . . Late last month, the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled Blackwood's legal reasoning for granting new trials was faulty but left the door open for him to do so if he found different legal grounds.

What happens when a sensational crime collides with a notoriously corrupt judge. Well, something like this.

I can’t believe this. Those poor families have suffered enough.

I feel for the families of the victims having to go through this all over again. As a father the details of their torture and slaying keep me awake at night.

Well I still hope that ultimately law will win over sympathy, even if it’s only a fig leaf of law. As otherwise, what happened in this case would gain precedential value over more “normal” crime cases. Is keeping a bloody murder nailed without the ado of a second trial worth dozens of “ordinary” crime suspects not able to get a judge who isn’t corrupt?

It really ought to go under a third judge that had nothing to do with either Baumgartner or Blackwood, as Blackwood negotiated easier terms for the corrupted Baumgartner and is therefore not free of Baumgartner’s stink. I fear as is, it is the worst of all worlds. Blackwood will get the second trial and then the slam dunk verdict will get knocked down AGAIN from the Federal level.

The MSM will feel the shame of this in the future... for now they’re safe in their PC blinders - yelling about Zimmerman...

Fro what the article says it sounds like the Supreme Court still has to approve Blackwood's arguments so maybe the parents and state can still be spared another ordeal.

Blackwood is beginning to sound not much better than Baumgartner himself.

This kid glove treatment in the media is certainly getting old among non-blacks (which wouldn’t just be caucasians). The toleration has got to end or else the media as we know it with its superstar directors become utterly extinct (and maybe both).

Blackwood had a role in easing Baumgartner out of his post instead of letting the latter take a hard fall, so I hear.

Lousy legal reasoning (the debate is over whether Baumgartner had done something to bias the jury, which today is more like a mushroom farm than a panel of enlightened citizens) is one matter. Just plain corruption, like drug dealing with suspects that you see in your court, is another.

If there were justice in America, a new trial for these “defendants” would require exhuming their remains.

That’s why integrity in the judicial system matters. Failure to deal with problems there adds one more obstacle that DP opponents can hurl at the system, and actually it’s one of the more fair arguments.

The level of evil, in the racist perps and the court dealings, makes me smell Holder somewhere in the background for this to be given to ‘his people’. And make no mistake, evil black people are Eric Holder’s people, not fellow American black people.

I would love to hunt each of these vermin using my Ruger .480 Super Redhawk with 325 grain Hornady XTP JHPs. It makes a real mess.

“And make no mistake, evil black people are Eric Holder’s people, not fellow American black people.”

An important distinction which some would like to blur.
