A HEARTLESS vandal used a fire extinguisher to put out the Eternal Flame at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne today.
Police have released CCTV footage of the man and want the public to help track him down.

As such I am angered and horrified by this act. The Eternal Flame, being a creation of man, does occasionally go out, and sometimes even needs to be turned off for maintenance, but deliberately extinguishing it like this disgusts me.
On the walls of the Shrine are carved the words:
LET ALL MEN KNOW THAT THIS IS HOLY GROUND. THIS SHRINE, ESTABLISHED IN THE HEARTS OF MEN AS ON THE SOLID EARTH, COMMEMORATES A PEOPLE'S FORTITUDE AND SACRIFICE. YE THEREFORE THAT COME AFTER, GIVE REMEMBRANCE.
It is Holy Ground, and this piece of scum - I hope he learns that.
Let the Aussie vets have at him, no charges, whatever happens to the POS. If Aussie RVN vets are as pissed off as we US vets are, it could get bloody fast.
was it one of the goathumpers that destroyed the Military Cemetery???
warning it’s make you sick...
Catch him and make him join the Australian Marines, some of the baldest of the baldest ... let him learn first hand what it means to serve.
When I was stationed in Korea, there were a LOT of stories about the Ozzies that made you glad they were on your side
I’ll hazard a guess...An anti-war protester who thinks desecrating a memorial makes a statement for peace.
That seems a very thoughtless and rude thing to do.
I’d suggest roasting the offender over an eternal flame, myself . . .
You beat me. I got a stomach virus. :(
