I was just in Chicago last week for an event honoring Bill Veeck (my dad wrote VEECK AS IN WRECK) and I met this guy Rick Telander and spoke at length. He was a very nice guy. We did not speak politics. I never speak politics to sportswriters. My father taught me that, as he was the only Republican in the bunch!

Imteresting - in many of his columns, Telander sounds like a total a—wipe.

Hildy, I'm pretty sure I told you this, but I'll tell it again:

I read and re-read Veeck – As in Wreck right after it came out in paperback. I loved it. Back then, I was a big sports fan. Not so these days.

It wasn't until a few years later, after I heard Veeck actually speak, that I realized how valuable your father's contribution was to that autobiography.
