Romney has a secret weapon that the pundits miss, and that sails right past the political junkies here. That is, after a three year plus adventure into the weirdness of ultra leftwing kultursmog, led by strange, unknown and ominous people with alien ideas and ideologies, Romney looks and sounds positively normal. A reassuringly normal American.

And if there is anything that the American people want and need at this point, it is a return to normal--to the familiar, the tried and trustworthy values that got us all here.

In an accident of history, benighted millions took a flyer and voted in an unknown quantity. But now that they've tried it, they have had enough.

Oh I think most FReepers are aware of and agree with your point in the first paragraph - although the poll-parsing may tend to obscure that fact.

Nothing, it seems, stirs the left more than normality, a concept they are rarely in regular contact with by accident or design. Normal jobs, normal families, normal aspirations, normal relationships etc. Look how they rail at these things and attempt to use the power of the state to eliminate or replace them. Alienation does strange things to human beings and we are seeing the fruits of that alienation in the causes taken up by the left.

But even leftists concede that Obama operates on a frequency even they can’t tune in, but they attempt to conceal his lack of connection with a phone book full of euphemisms: a cool customer, too intelligent, etc.

I think you're on to something. For all of his faults, Romney is meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy while Obama is dog meat and arugula. Bon appetit.

Your post is as spot-on accurate as can be. If "Team Romney" has any members or lurkers on FR, turn this FReepers's prose into a highly effective ad!

“A reassuringly normal American.”

I think you are onto something here as Romney’s selling point. All Romney has to do is convince 50% of the voters he is acceptable as a President and they can be assured of normalcy. This is the characteristic that will win over independents and fence sitters.

You’re right, even if it’s a facade.

Very well said...and I believe, spot on.

The American people (the majority of them) long for normalcy and a return to traditional values and leadership. The are getting the exact oppoistie from the Kenyan Marxist.

That is an excellent analysis. Yes, it is rather very simple, the majority of voters want to go back to a normal person for President who believes in America the way the vast majority of Americans have believed in since the Founding Fathers and until today.

Excellent post and absolutely spot on for how the vast majority of people decide their vote. It is general appearance, seeming maturity and reassurance - particularly after such a chaotic drunken fling with the exotic - that voters will be looking for. Specific issues count for less...except where they reinforce that general vision (and in this case gay marriage just doubles down on the “exotic”, the strangely different, which merely reinforces the vision that is taking hold now). If Obama were truly smart, he’d find something very traditional to latch onto, particularly in the economic realm, not double down on the exotic stuff.

Very good post...

We are so sick of a sick economy that no one will speak about, and a wife always telling us what to eat we are tired of the Communistic - Marxist daily grind of constant revolutionary changes or attempts their of...

Yes we want normal. He can have verbal gaff's but he ain't McCain. He has good hair, but his best asset? his wife. After 4 years of the current ardent marxist beeotch, telling us what to eat and vacationing everywhere with dresses that look like Barney Frank's living room drapes, I think America is ready for Ann Romney and her Normal, Boring Husband with good hair...

I know another commenter remarked on the simple truth of your post and the rightness of it.

I mostly agree but let’s not forget this is a guy who held down a gay kid and cut off his beautiful blonde curls, the WAPO told me this.

NO WAIT! You don’t think they’re floating this kind of stuff just to take down that very image of normalcy your comment praised?

Nah. Sure the President of the U.S. is too important to engage in such smallness. And the Washington Post, the paper of Woodward and Bernstein would accept such a stupid story?

No way!
