North Carolina’s Ban on Gay Marriage Appears Likely to Pass [Obama Loses]
NY TIMES ^ | 5/7/12 | Nate Silver

On Tuesday, North Carolina will vote on a state constitutional amendment that declares, “Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized,” thereby banning recognition of same-sex marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships of any kind...

The most recent poll was conducted by Civitas Institute, a conservative think tank whose poll results have generally shown little partisan bias in the past. That survey polled Democratic and Republican primary voters separately, but projected that the measure would win by 16 percentage points when it combined the results.

An April poll by Public Policy Polling, which conducts polling for Democratic clients but whose surveys also have a track record of nonpartisanship, had the measure prevailing by 14 points.

Hope so.

Incidentally, heard on the news that Caroline Kennedy is honoring three Iowa pro-gay judges, who were voted out of office, with "courage" awards for their courage.

FWIW....

I vote in a deep red precinct. At 7:30, I was voter #121. Lines were out the door.

I'll wait until the votes are counted, here, but I think that the Marriage Amendment passes, and Dems get a real slapdown.

is that native-born North Carolinians are in the minority in that state now

If I may comment....

I'm a Dammed Yankee in NC, and I wouldn't change one thing about it. But then again, I'm not from NYC. :-)

Also, regarding the Vietnamese - my old neighborhood was mostly Montagnard. Everyone I talked to was more conservative than me. Most all of them were small businessmen and women, I suppose that fosters conservatism.

And finally, there was an extended Vietnamese family who lived directly across the street from me. Cute kids, and some of the most considerate and polite that I've encountered. The grandpa was a pleasant very old gentleman who didn't speak much English. He had come to America from Vietnam by way of China, and was fond of saying, "Vietnam not so good. China not so good. America #1 !!!"

Sez me, we could use more people like that.

I have no argument with the types of people now to be found in NC. Such diversity supports my point.

My point was that if the gay marriage ban is enacted, the MSM will CHARACTERIZE everyone in NC as a white redneck fundamentalist Christian.

That is all.

“Libnuts will use any scare tactic to impose their warped view on the world. In Texas, they tried to tell us that our marriage amendment would invalidate ALL marriages. LOL!!!”

They must really think Texans are total morons for trying that one. Of course to liberals, lying is always justifiable if it “advances the common good” a/k/a the codeword for their agenda.
