Gingrich exits presidential race; vows to help Romney

Newt Gingrich, the colorful former House speaker and fiery partisan, formally exited the Republican presidential contest Wednesday and vowed to help Mitt Romney's bid to defeat President Barack Obama. Ending a campaign that seesawed between implosion and frontrunner and back again, Gingrich threw his support to his one-time rival as expected and promised his supporters he would continue to push conservative ideas. Gingrich bowed out of the race more than $4 million in debt and his reputation perhaps damaged.

"Today, I am suspending the campaign. But suspending the campaign does not mean suspending citizenship," Gingrich told a hotel ballroom in suburban Washington.

"We are now going to put down the role of candidate and candidate's spouse and take back the role of active citizens," he said, adding he would continue to promote conservative ideas on college campuses, as well as through newsletters and films.

He also urged conservatives to rally behind Romney as a better alternative than Obama.

"This is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history," Gingrich said.

FR has made it VERY clear that we are not to support Romney - even if that means Obama is reelected.

You obviously don't understand the rationale behind Jim Rob's policy. Once again, here it is...

There are NO substantial differences between Romney and Obama. They're both employees of the same globalist, America-hating, ruling class Socialists. The only things separating them are their team jerseys.

This is a conservative forum. Check the founder's Mission Statement for clarification, if you have any confusion on that point. Given that this isn't a Republican party forum, its aims and purposes are in alignment with those of the Framers and our Founding Documents.

Hence, this group has principles to guide it. Principles that don't include supporting big government liberals of any stripe. Especially those who also have bent over backwards to conspire with our political enemies in their quest to undermine every pillar of our traditions and culture.

“I most certainly understand your feelings and views, but I think the stakes are too high now. The primary mission in this campaign is to remove the regime from power.”

Correct.

Romney may be no more conservative than the non-conservative Eisenhower was (one of his favorite Presidents). Well, there’s a huge gap between Eisenhower and Obama. Anyone not seeing this is not thinking straight.

I really don't want to chance it, but the main part is about who we are really up against in this election. The two paths, what I initially referenced to you, portion is at the end, you can read them in the transcript:
"There are two paths! There are two paths! One is America, the other is Occupy! One is America, the other is Occupy! And I don't care, and along the way... I've realized over the last three years that the Republican Party and the conservative movement is not what ABC, CBS and NBC put on the screen.

"They try to portray you in the worst possible light... and when I travel around the United States meeting people in the Tea Party who care -- black, white, gay, straight -- anyone that's willing to stand next to me to fight the progressive left, I will be in that bunker..."

and he makes it clear this is so even if we are not satisfied with our candidate.

Again, if you've never watched it, it's worth it when you have some time, only 16 minutes or so.

You know, to watch FReepers bit*h about Romney as our presumptive GOP nominee is kind of amusing. Many FReepers joined with left-leaning rags like Politico in trashing many our candidates, and are now pi$$ed that Romney is the GOP candidate. Sorry, but many FReepers hold at least some responsibility for the boat we're in now. Nobody was "pure" enough for some FReepers. Well, looks like this demand for utter perfection has left us with Romney. Thank you!

” - - - So what would it take to make a viable, third party, Tea Party run? “

In order for a third party to be viable, the election rules would have to change to allow a runoff between the two leading contenders.

Otherwise there would be the usual boo-hooing about “splitting” or “throwing away” ones vote.

An achievable scenario in 2012 is to

1.) boycott voting for Romney by voting for ABO (Anybody But Romney) in the remaining Primary elections;

2.) work and lobby for an Open Convention in Tampa;

and 3.) DRAFT Sen. Jim DeMint, R-Sc., to be the Republican Presidential Nominee.

BTW, Jim “says” that he doesn’t want to run, “at this time.”

If you live in a deep-blue state, e.g., CA, NY, then you can vote for who ever you please as it won’t make a difference. But, you can still donate effectively as that method of support knows no bounds. On the other hand, if you live in a GW Bush 2004 state that went into the 0bama column in 2008, then you have the duty. 0bama must be defeated; take one for the team.

“There are two paths. One is America. One is Occupy.” A. Breitbart C-PAC 2012

So, I pray that voting a straight Republican ticket below the line for president is enough to end-around the current dictator's executive orders and czars. I would like to hear some more rhetoric on this. Contemplating another four year march toward Marxism and Boehner’s lack of leadership has left me cold and shaking when pondering the future of our country.

Counting on the great minds of FR to elaborate further on the steps we can take toward November.

Sadly the Republican establishment has once again hosed the American people but... It's not without our consent. God gave the Israelites their "KING" when they wanted to be like all the other peoples of the world and they ended up with Saul; a corrupt and evil ruler. Their heart's desire was to reject the King of King and Lord of Lords (God Himself) and sought after a man to rule over them. He honored His peoples hearts' desire and again we have a perfect example of God honoring the desires of people's hearts. Our nation is spiritually sick as evidenced by the FACT that our choices for president come down to the Antichrist Barack Hussein Obomba or Mitt Romney. They are both members of cults practicing false religions and denying God and the principles of His that have made this nation great. A vote for Romney is as good as a vote for obomba. Romney cannot beat obomba. Period. End of story. The United States, like ancient Rome, is burning right before our eyes and no one is doing anything to stop it. Like it of not sudden destruction is looming in the very near future. America was the last great bastion of freedom for human kind. Now our only hope is for a quick catching away and return of Jesus Christ. The second coming is creation's last chance. Americans have not repented and now God's judgement will soon be measured out. Like Tyre and Sidon, Sodom and Gomorrah, our days are numbered.

I just hope and pray that you've made your peace with God because it's going to continue to get uglier and uglier with each passing day.

JMHO

Oh... And before some bonehead tries to tell me that romney will beat obomba just remember... McCain.

I am over here shaking my head..... Newt endorses Mittens and even wants to help get him elected and a bunch you are still singing the Newt praises.

So it doesn’t matter what someone does or what someone says just his spin matters even though it does not match his actions and that makes them a good republican candidate for president? Flippin sad beyond belief.

telling points. i too am with the God-fearing samuel, who i understand (and God forbid and forgive if i incorrectly paraphrase His word) correctly stood aside and let the people have their God-chosen tyrant (for it is God who gives us the leader we need and deserve, and yes we both needed and deserved the evil obama). if God moves me to support one of the remaining liberals, so be it. His will be done. but as of now, i will stand aside as did the good samuel, stop actively fighting romney as i have been since the beginning, and let the LORD work his will.

if the LORD raises or converts a true conservative for the constitutional office of president and presents him or her to us, i will activate my support again. for now, i work for true conservatives down ticket. there are many conservative davids to support. i pray that this the correct course. at least for me.

...there are two choices, but the choice is not between the respective nominees. The real choice is between giving ones grudging (or groveling) support to the corrupt and suppressive ruling class, or RESISTING TYRANNY.

Hear, hear. This is why staying home on election day (in terms of the presidential election, at least) is meaningful. And why "conservatives" who hear that and say "enjoy 4 more years of Obama" are completely missing the point.

Newt was the BEST choice. Newt’s “support” of Romney is only a basic courtesy that any candidate must comment on. I’m sure Newt must’ve hurled, or had the distinct feeling of Nausea having to support such a liberal flip-floppin’ phony ironing board. It’s OK. Newt is 100xtimes stronger, but how sad is it that money is the main game?

Can romney really win? I am seriously not optimistic on that. When do liberal moderates win GOP general elections?

The Commie in the White House has that. The media anyway! He has to go!!! Need to vote him out!
