Can you imagine a liberal comedian demeaning the appearance of a physically handicapped, Pulitzer Prize-winning, liberal syndicated columnist? On Thursday, Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert called Charles Krauthammer "Count Chocula" (video follows with commentary): (Snip) And was the comedian aware that Krauthammer became a paraplegic as a result of a car accident while he was attending Harvard Medical School? If Colbert knew this, would he still ridicule Krauthammer's appearance? Assuming the answer is "Yes," now imagine Krauthammer was a liberal paraplegic who won the Pulitzer Prize.

It was during his freshmen year in medical school that he had the accident that changed his life. He dove off the diving board at a swimming pool and hit his head on the bottom. Since then, he’s been confined to a wheelchair, something few people know unless they’ve seen him in person or on television. While he was forced to make certain lifestyle changes, Krauthammer did not let the accident affect his ambition.

He completed medical school and did a three year residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, serving as chief resident the last year. During that time he wrote a paper about a condition he called “secondary mania.” Almost twenty years later, one of Krauthammer’s friends at the AMA sent him a newsletter discussing the identification and treatment of secondary mania. “I had said there was disease no one recognized and gave it a name. I left the field before the paper was even published. I sent it in and then left. I discovered that an entire field of study had grown up around the paper. It’s kind of like being a bastard child in another country and discovering you have a whole other family.”

Colbert's a “comedian”...Krauthammer is a graduate of Harvard Medical School.Colbert's not fit to shine Charles's shoes.

I think it was a diving accident but that's a small matter.I worked at one of Harvard's major teaching hospitals when he was a student there and I saw him in the hallways many times.Even interacted with him (briefly) a couple of times. He struck me as being a very decent guy and an *amazingly* courageous one.

Yeah, Colbert’s a jerk, but the Count Chocula moniker fits.

This is the world of opinion. Liberals are the worst. They stoop to using personal
characteristics to attack their opponents.

But there is nothing cruel about coalbear’s statement. He did not make light of Dr. K’s paralysis. I thought he was a quadrapalegic. His paralysis is far greater than we realize.. A truly remarkable man

I’m sure many people in CK’s situation don’t want immunity from criticism just b/c of their condition, and can take such ribbing in stride.

You can be sure, however, that any similar reference to a black Liberal with no impediments, even if unintended, would immediately draw loud cries of Racism...

The Right has the better sense of humor. Consider the source, I bet Dr.K does not care what Colbert thinks of him because Dr. K never thinks of Colbert.

Colbert, the cruel

Colbert is a fantastically evil person. Everything he says is hate speech at the most perverted level. He's a major handler for millions of liberals, who feed on his filth like roaches on a turd. Calling him a comedian is like laughing at the death camps.

It was a diving, not car accident, which occurred in his first year of medical school, but although paralyzed and spending a year in the hospital, went on to graduate with his class.

Later on he became chief resident in Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Actually, he is considered to be “conservative” by liberals because he is more moderate than the rest.

Fags are the cruelest people. They are like spiteful children who make fun of the fat kid because they are insecure about themselves.
Big deal,Krauthammer has more brains in his finger as this chucklehead has in his entire body.

i was having lunch in a Greek restaurant here, years ago when I noticed an unusual looking man, very well dressed but in a wheelchair, a few tables over, dining alone. I remember wondering what nationality he was, because he just looked, well, different, like a character from one of the more recent iterations of Star Trek. He noticed me looking and became visibly uncomfortable, so I nodded, smiled briefly and looked away. It was Charles Krauthammer, I later learned.
