Yes, you know they worked together, and Santorum was a key player in the events leading up to Gingrich becoming speaker.
Santorum was a supporter of Newt even before he entered politics, and was listening to Gingrich speeches when discussing his plans.
Santorum was part of the gang of 7 who made the check-kiting scandal a national story, which was instrumental in the Republican sweep that carried Newt Gingrich into office.
And when Santorum went to the Senate, he was considered Newt’s point man in that body, working hard to make sure the budgets were balanced, and contributing to the 4 great years of budgets, even after Newt left his position.
And what is the point of this thread, CW?
If the goal is to stop Romney and ultimately, Obama, what earthly purpose do your rants against Santorum accomplish except to make you Newt lovers look like sore losers?
Newt’s campaign is OVER. His funds are drying up, his supporters are abandoning him in droves, his percentages in state polls abysmal. There is no point in his staying in the race except to fuel his own limitless ego needs.
He could have been a hero if he had withdrawn and thrown his support to Santorum. Likely he will now be remembered only for being a spoiler.
As of right now Mitt has won 15 states...
Santorum has won 9. And placed second 8x’s.
Newt has won two. And placed second 4x’s.
And while I don’t want Newt to drop out, it’s time for Conservatives to rally around Santorum, if for no other reason to deny Romney the nomination and to take the fight to the convention!
