Is Romney Reading Krugman?

At a campaign stop in Michigan on Tuesday, Mitt Romney made news by telling the truth about the economy. He said: “If you just cut, if all you’re thinking about doing is cutting spending, as you cut spending you’ll slow down the economy. So you have to, at the same time, create pro-growth tax policies.”

That’s similar to what Paul Krugman, TheTimes editorial board, and many liberal economists have been arguing since the downturn: You can’t cut your way to growth.

Even conservative economists don’t believe that you can make massive, immediate federal cuts without hurting growth, anemic as it is. This is a long term project. Krugman would have the government put the economic pedal to the metal and damn the consequences. Mitt doesn’t agree with that position. There is no similarity between Krugman and Romneys positions. Mitt is not much of a social conservative, but his economic positions are not much different than Gingrich’s or Santorum’s.

Why does it surprise everyone when a liberal Democrat says liberal Democrat things? Milt is to the left of Bill & Hillary, but just because he’s a self-styled “severe conservative” Republican we’re supposed to not take into acount his record and utterances?

Mitt is not much of a social conservative, but his economic positions are not much different than Gingrich’s or Santorum’s.

Which is a steaming pile of lies because Santorum and Gingrich both support spending cuts combined with tax cuts. And what "conservative economists" do you refer to who agree with Paul Krugman?

The difference is, Krugman would want taxes raised. One would onl hope that Romney and everyone else on the Republican side, would want them cut.

New York Times mischief-making. I'm pretty sure this isn't what Krugman says. Krugman is for tax cuts? I doubt that.

I don't like Romney, Romney may share social-values with everyone on the editorial board at the NYT but I'm pretty sure they are not for "pro-growth tax policies".

Still, I'm not taking chances. If the NYT likes him, and they hate Gingrich and Santorum, you can guess which way I'm leaning. Gingrich #1 with Santorum coming up fast on the inside rail.
