They’ve been crippled by government.

Great idea. Because we Constitutional conservatives are routinely labeled as nuts, we’ll automatically qualify for fed handouts without going through that unemployment process.

The Post noted that the more people file for disability claims, the better for the unemployment picture since those people are removed from the jobless rolls.

Unemployment eventually comes to an end. Disability is forever.

A disability check here in Eastern KY is better than winning on a scratch-off ticket down at the convenience store. The real prize is the “crazy check” for mental disability because you don’t have to keep pretending your back is hurt. The downside is that you don’t get any free oxycontin with your Medicaid card. Not a problem though because are plenty of, ah, oxycontin vendors who will be happy to relieve you of some of your disability check in return for the goodies.

I had heard of this from a phone rep at the WA state unemployment benefits info line just the other day. I was flabbergasted and tried to get her to fess up to pulling my leg.....she was dead serious and said it was very true.

On a side note, I finally got hired a couple days ago after a full year of unemployment....I start tomorrow and I'm so pumped. Won't have to call that line again. :)

"43 percent are asking for benefits because of mental illness"

Hmmm.....roughly the same as the percentage of the population that votes Democrat.

What a coincidence....

Following the pattern of western nanny-state Europe. They have exceptionally high disability rates for the same reason and have had for years.

Galting on a massive scale.

asking for benefits because of mental illness ..growing number of those people are older, former white-collar workers...

Makes sense -- for decades they saw the sweat of thier borws going to low class slobs who were smart enough to claim the "crazy money" which Washington hands out. Time to get soem of the hard earned cash back.

Meanwhile, thousands of degreed, local bureaucrats receive high incomes for doing nothing in the absence of new construction for decades.

Believe it or not, many Americans have stashed $100k, $200k and more. They never knew they were saving the money but the government takes a little out of your paycheck over the years and it is actually earmarked as your private account.

You are paying for this money in the hopes you never have to use but there may be a day and one should absolutely file a claim.

When you die you will not be allowed to pass on this cash to your heirs.

When you retire you will not be given any of the money as part of your retirement.

The government keeps 96% of all monies paid into SDI.

It’s your money and you have a right to it to support you while you are injured and to have the costs of your surgery paid for and it just so happens you are self funding it.

I have no problem with anyone filing and getting back at least some of their money.

The people who voted for Obama were already crazy, and the rest of us are being driven crazy. The whole country is turning into a nuthouse.

This sort of thing really pisses me off, because there are people who need and deserve disability. I've mentioned my cousin here before. Although he was always introverted and just seemed a bit "odd" growing up, he graduated college with a BA in business administration. He worked for a major financial corporation for around 10 years before he was let go for "inappropriate actions." It was only then that he was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Over the years he only got worse... He began taking what ever jobs he could get... He went from working at a pharmacy as a clerk and stocker, to losing that job, and working as a sacker at a grocery store. Eventually he lost that job as well. He lived at home with his mother, and became her primary care giver when she began to suffer from dementia, and that REALLY damaged him emotionally, because she became very abusive towards him.

He is simply incapable of holding anything but the most menial job, and it would have to be arranged by a mental health agency, because no company would ever hire him.

It took him more than 3 years and multiple appeals to finally be certified for disability. This guy worked and payed into the system since he got his first part time job at 13 years of age. He payed into the system until he lost his last job about 8 years ago. He wants to work, but he can barely hold a conversation with some who's not a family member.

It's a shame that the system seems to be rigged against the people who really need the help that system was originally supposed to provide.

Mark

Walking into a firm and asking to ‘intern’ or work for free and be trained anew to get the new skills needed to get back on one’s feet even while pulling Unempl. benefits is not hard.

Sitting at home blubbering in panic - UNACCEPTABLE.

Vast majority of these people are liars, fools and malingers.
