Dem senator says Sen. Santorum was 'uncompromising'
The Hill ^ | 02/17/12 | Daniel Strauss

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) described Rick Santorum, when he represented Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, as a senator who had "very little interest" in people who disagreed with him.

"Rick is somebody that has no doubts about his position. And very little interest in the views of those who disagree with him," Conrad said in an interview scheduled to air Friday evening on Bloomberg TV. "I think that would be my take on how Sen. Santorum conducted himself with his colleagues when he was in the Senate."

Conrad described Santorum, now contending for the Republican presidential nomination, as "unyielding and uncompromising."

Funny, that sounds just like a certain someone currently residing in the White Hut. Should make for an interesting matchup.

I wonder if he'd have the spine and principle to reject more minimum wage increases, urge Congress to cut the foodstamp program, and reject outright any possibility of individual or company mandates in any approach to health insurance?

Or to dump the capital gains tax altogehter? Or fight for a flat tax of 15 percent? Or actually talk about something as gutsy AND DAMNED WELL NECESSARY as colonizing the moon? Hello????? The nation that has technological dominance in space will have miliary dominance of this planet. Superiority in space should constantly, always be among America's top priorities, and some people know it.

Others poo-poo it and laugh ... and then when their grandkids wake up looking at a moon "owned" by China or Russia, or some alliance of countries not led by the U.S., whatever freedom those grandkids enjoy will be at the mercy of other nations. Understanding how important it is to our American destiny to hold onto the moon and the defensive edge space tech gives us ...

What kind of spine does Santorum have for that kind "crazy" vision? The guy us too busy enforcing laws against illegal pornography, a pressing concern for any world leader!

Godspeed Newt Gingrich.

I am sick up to here with Republicans who accept “just a little bit of cancer” from the Democrats

Good analogy.

The court has us held hostage. So we get no time off for good behavior. Good one. :-)

This has always been my qualm about Ricky.

He came off exactly like this when I met him. He never hesitated to talk over someone to give his point of view.

Really smart people and good leaders ask questions -- not issue edicts.

He's still our best shot at beating Obama, in my opinion.

Let's be honest: Santorum has a spine right up until he meets a demand from the unions. Then he turns to shit.

FRiend, am I correct in remembering that Santorum said we can't afford it?

We can't afford to not to aim for the moon or the pursuit of superiority in space technology that holding said moon (or Mars) as a grail would create.

I repeat: The nation that has superiority in space technology, will have military dominance of this planet. Certainly you must know this to be true!

The moon and progress in space mastery isn't a little kooky hobby we "can't afford." On the contrary, it is both our ticket to national security and market prosperity on a new frontier. When America "can't afford" to press forward, then you might as well pack it up. When you vote FOR a guy who thinks America can't afford to press forward in the most crucial technlogy of our era, you're voting to be defeated by the rest of the world.

This is why I say and pray: GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.

That's refreshing after Senator reach around across-the-aisle from four years ago.

If Rick were a Saint, being pig headed would be good. If he is just an industrial policy social conservative like Bush, a disaster.

Be careful what you wish for Sabtorum fans. Someone too self righteous can turn off all of us sinners by being an insufferable nag.
