Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s big mega-donor kicked up a controversy over the issue of contraception today when he urged a return to the good old days when gals had a simple solution for it: aspirin between the knees.

We’re not kidding.

Wealthy entreprenuer Foster Freiss, who’s backed Santorum’s Super-PAC, made the statements to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell today, after being asked if his candidate has expressed some extremist views on contraception.

He appeared to express wonder that women even have to worry about the issue of paying for contraception these days, Politico reports.

“On this contraceptive thing, my Gosh it’s such [sic] inexpensive,” he added. “You know, back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn’t that costly.”

That’s a riot. “Back in my day. . . .”

I don’t think SFGate gets the joke.

What a Neanderthal!

Real civilized people have free, indiscriminate sex with multiple partners, and then discard the ensuing procreation.

That is the sign of an advanced society.

To quote the Santorum backer more accurately,

girls, hold that “aspirin between the knees.”

" He is old and it was a joke. Libs have no sense of humor. they have Bill Maher "

You couldn't tell this to those Newt Gingrich supporters who will take this and use it to bash Rick Santorum with and make hay with it.

He, Rick's SUPERPAC money man was jokingly referring to abstinence.

Andrea was SHOCKED! Imagine women in control of events. Quite shocking, and yet...well maybe my wife is a throwback like me.

Kinda odd how they’re acting like Santorum is walking into a trap but they’re the ones wanting to keep those embarrassing conservative ideals out of the public eye.

You forgot about unwed mothers and teen pregnancy and all the unintended consequence it has on society for all of us who have to pay for all those " Social Programs " by the government... no, wait, there are those who don't want us to focus on " Social Issues " ...

In the “let’s pretend to be outraged and not know an old joke” category.

So ? would you rather have us paying for those " Social Programs " by the government because our culture has not taught the virtues of abstinence ?
What happen to all those who were crying that we should not focus on social issues ? and now criticize Foster by jokingly referring to abstinence ?

What you may be missing is that most women aren’t going to think it’s funny or a joke, and most younger people are going to think it’s bizarre and unsettling.

This is not the 1950’s. We have to win with the electorate as it is today, which means not telling us about what Rick thinks is morale, whether people should practice birth control, or whether women should work.

Rick spells certain and landslide defeat if we nominiate him. Gingrich is light years better.

No. I think Santorum is going to discover that there are many conservative Republicans like myself, married with children and faithful to our spouses who use birth control as part of responsible family planning. I certainly take offense to the notion that birth control is only used by people wanting indiscriminate, irresponsible sexual encounters with multiple partners.

Oh you misunderstand. I am not condemning BC. I’m a big fan of contraception.

I’m merely commenting on the general attitude of the left.

This guy was talking about abstinence, not contraception.

The aspirin between the legs is an old joke. If a woman is holding an aspirin between the legs, it becomes difficult to have sex.
