Woman shot, killed trying to break into home(OH)

DAYTON — A woman is dead following the attempted burglary of a residence on Burbank Drive, according to police.

The woman was fatally shot by the resident of 1932 Burbank Dr., after she broke in to the residence Saturday afternoon and was confronted by a resident of the home. The resident told the unarmed woman to stay put after he discovered her intruding, but the woman threw an object at him. He then shot the woman in the chest using a semiautomatic handgun, according to Dayton Police.

When asked if the resident was justified in firing his weapon, Lt. Kenneth Beall said, “It’s going to take more investigation and a more detailed interview to make a conclusion like that.

“In the eyes of the courts, a man’s home is his castle,” Beall said. “(But) I can’t come to that particular conclusion right now in respect to this incident.”

The resident was placed in police custody, but has not been charged with any crimes at this point, police said.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the woman shot and killed as Rovena Turner, 18, of Dayton. Police did not identify the resident.

It appears the two parties did not know each other, according to police.

Craig Robinson lives on Wicklow Place, about half a block from Saturday’s homicide.

“All my neighbors are wonderful people,” he said. “We look out for each other, we talk to each other. This does not make any sense.”

I wonder if Rovena Turner has a criminal history.

Does that mean that she rots in jail until they figure this out?

Only a hammerass would ask this question. If intruder comes into my house, I will kill him.

“...This does not make any sense.”

Why does this kind of statement always seem to show up in these Leftist rags? Hello, people! There’s something called ‘evil’! You need to wake up and realize that it exists in the world.

The press apparently cannot name the victim, but they certainly have no ethical or moral compunction against giving the exact address where the victim lives.

Pathetic.

As for the homeowner, .... nice shootin’. Made the world a better place by a factor of 1.

When a stranger breaks into your home, they've already broken the law & you have no idea of their further intentions .... I, for one, am not going to take the time to play '20 questions'.

just say the intruder made a movement and thought they were going to reach for a gun. Thats what cops say so it’s good enough excuse for anybody too.

"Does that mean that she rots in jail until they figure this out?"

I think that the police and persons in custody would quickly be barfing if they let her rot in custody. Better to take her to the morgue.

In the meantime, the man who shot her, is in custody.

Typically the police can hold you for up to 24 hours without charge in police custody. This can be extended by a Judge to I think 96 hours.
Please take the time today to find a lawyer, meet with them, make sure they are pro-gun etc, and willing to come running if an incident occurs and then keep their 24/7 phone number with you at all times.
In the case of a shooting or a situation like this, having your lawyer show up on the scene can definitely reduce your chances of ending up in custody and will ensure if you do, you get out as quickly as possible.

...proving she was armed! “Objects” like what? A 3 lb ash tray? A meat cleaver?

I am so glad I fled Dayton when I got the chance.

I was mugged at gunpoint a year ago, right on the VA grounds, by a black crackhead.

Dayton Ohio is a black Leftist enclave, and is economically and socially beyond redemption.

I sympathize, but obviously not the thing to say in an actual incident.

Be prepared if you ever have to resort to deadly force for self defense.

Learn to say the words “I was in fear of my life” and “I want my lawyer now”, then say nothing more. You are justified to use deadly force only when in fear of your life or the life of others with you.

Do not give anyone the opportunity to think you have a premeditated plan to kill. Do not use home reloaded ammunition. Expect to be arrested and your gun confiscated. Expect huge legal ramifications. But of course be grateful you are not the dead crime victem.
