No, it’s not based on nothing. Paul always seems to understand why we were attacked, why Iran wants nukes. I think that in today’s world, we can’t wait for an attack. When a madman announces to the world that he is a menace, he must be dealt with-— BEFORE a catastrophe. Obama utilizes the Paul strategy— threaten sanctions to encourage proper behavior. That’s working really well. Bob
P.S. The foreign aid budget is so small that Washington spends that amount in the time it takes to visit a john. I agree in part, but why the focus on paltry sums?

We've been spending like 100Bn/year in special appropriations beyond the defense budget for Iraq and Afganistan etc for a decade. We spend vast sums on foreign bases etc.

a madman announces to the world that he is a menace You want to listen to our enemies? Al Queda said the reason they were attacking us was because we had bases in Saudi Arabia. Ahmanijad would be the first to tell you if you ask him that if we stop sactioning Iran and our government stops giving money to Israel and we bring all our troops home, that he will leave us alone. I don't know for sure if he's telling the truth, but what if he is? It would be in his interest after all. He lies when that's in his interest, but why shouldn't he act in his own interest?

You are right that the world has changed in that there are nukes. But we have been unable to stop nations we don't like from getting nukes for a while now so that ship has mostly sailed.
Your proposal is to wage perpetual war-- in fact we have been actively at war for 22 years and counting-- in search of a chimera that is already escaped. At a cost of many trillions. What is truly sapping the strategic security of the United States is its fiscal crisis, to which this perpetual war has contributed a vast amount, and which absolutely will not be solved without ending the perpetual war. Every sustained war in US history has brought heavy inflation. If the fiscal crisis is not solved, it will lay low the US. Iran is a very hypothetical foe that would be maybe a tenth the threat to the US that the fiscal crisis is if they were to actually get nukes and declare war. Moreover, as Paul points out, our hostility to Iran unifies the Iranians and prevents overthrow of their government. Our actions are detrimental to our cause.

Paul is not in favor of economic sanctions against Iran. You are wrong again. Obama's strategy is the Bush strategy, not the Paul strategy which is diametrically opposed.
