That’s okay, Fish.

I do a lot of mental griping in church also, for which I should be ashamed and sometimes am.

Little things they do to change words and change the service annoy me unduly.

And people annoy me. People who come to church sounding like they are in the last stages of pneumonia annoy me.

This morning, though, I had a lesson. I had gone to the early service for certain reasons involving the death of a very close church friend.

A person behind me kept yawning loudly. This was constant. I was irritated and thinking, I’m sleepy too, but if I couldn’t stop yawning I would stay at home.

And then ... when I finally had a chance to see who was behind me (it’s a mortal sin to look around in the Episcopal church) I saw it was a sweet young Down’s Syndrome girl with her mother.

God got me hard on that one.

Okay, so I got a Ron Paul rant to get off my chest.

Recently we elected an RDC-rep. district chair- to replace one who got ejected...long story.

Now I like the guy who got elected, nice fellow, personable, but he never struck me as any kind of genius. Still I am his secretary and he loves me, as he should.

So last meeting I ask him who’s his primary candidate of the current field. He tells me, with a smile, Ron Paul.

This gives me great pause.

Now I walk softly here as I do not wish to insult any Ron Paul fans on this thread and be kind as even my own husband, who I know is a smart guy, is suddenly a Ron Paul fan.

So I listen anew to Dr. Paul, with open ears and mind.

I’m so sorry but I don’t buy a thing the man says, particularly his foreign policy stance, although of late I do kind of wonder if America shouldn’t get out of lands in which it don’t belong, we never fight wars to win any more...like that. It’s why so many once normal people suddenly like Ron Paul.

There’s so much awful info out there about Dr. Paul, including questionable racist quotes in newsletters he once wrote, or oversaw the writing....you gotta be deaf and dumb not to be taken aback.

So this RDC, who I work with doing as secretary’s do, writing the Minutes, correcting his spelling and verbiage, reminding him what needs done, designing sign-in forms, tracking convention attendees, you know the deal, doing all the work behind the scenes.

And he’s voting for Ron Paul?

Sigh.

can you get Democrats to help repeal it and replace it with the stuff that make sense in the American Economy?

That question assumes that the RATs are anything less than full-blown communists. ObamaCare is only a stepping stone, and they will not stop pounding until they enact genuine single-payer CommieCare.

My mom used to sing in the church choir (fairly small one) so I heard some interesting stories ..... :-) Anyway, when you were talking about how the soprano/alto parts are reversed, it brought to mind a really beautiful song - Gordon Lightfoot’s “Song for a Winter’s Night”. Sarah McLachlan has put out a version of the song and she sings ... the harmony. It is really unusual and although it seems a little strange, it is just haunting. Perhaps this is the sort of sound the Three Kings arranger was after, but most of the time I think they are just trying to torture the good (mostly non-professional singers) people who do their best to praise the Lord by singing in church choirs. BTW, our choir director/organist is leaving after 26 years .... he was excellent and it’s really causing a stir.

I say this from the experience of a few years’ worth of umpiring baseball......(I’ll leave singing to folks like you who can)

1) You are far and away your own most uncharitable critic. The 98 percent of humanity who couldn’t or wouldn’t do what you’re at don’t know spit about it, and the rest usually have the good sense to keep their mouths shut, since they can recall even worse performances of their own.

2) The only sure way to keep from making a mistake is not to do anything at all.

3) The best teacher is experience, which usually comes from making mistakes. People with lots of experience therefore have made lots of mistakes.

Keep on singin’, Fish. I may even trek out east sometime and come visit your parish just to say Howdy and listen in a bit.

I see Ron Paul as a pacifist, afraid to go to war for any reason, I would fear for this country and our interest as much or could be even more than as when any Democrat is in charge.

Yes, the candidates that really want to win should be weaving in the reasons to question Obama’s judgement and the lack of it in many instances and examples. Like that comment ‘profits, now is not the time for that’, I’m guessing now that Obama is bragging about 200,000 jobs, he’s given his permission for companies to profit so they can hire workers?

Great post.

One of the reasons why I like Newt. You have to be able to decipher rat spin and tell the truth about what is really going on in simple laymanese that fits into tv/radio soundbites. The only one who can do that off the cuff without rehearsal is Newt. the others have to teleprompter it in to their minds or they are lost.

In reality, after what Democrats have done legislatively, including Pelosi and all her ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ bills, the 200,000 jobs is a very dismal performance.

Exactly, we need to be shouting it each and every day and not force Rush to do it all.

Bingo! How can anyone trust the elected Democrats that almost all voted for health care, stimulus, ect. Who is there that you can work with? A Joe Lieberman type? No thanks, almost none of them have shown a bit of common sense in economic, legislative or medical issues. The only thing you could do is arm twisting or bribe them with earmarks.

Yes, as Rush says, brevity is the soul of wit, I’d recommend for everyone to also get posting in their local media where we aren’t just talking to like minded conservatives. Keep it short and to the point, and then watch the local lib/Democrat supporters comments go nuts as the truth is given some light of day.

That song is called “Three Kings from Persian Lands Afar”...the darn strangest arrangement on the planet.

Yeah, plus it glorifies Iranian leadership.

(ducking for cover)

I think Ron Paul really only draws from the legalize drug crowd,

That and anti-war peaceniks. The case can be made Paul would hurt Obie more than our guy. Much more, imho.

Shoot, just pretend you're a lib, call a presser to declare that as a fact and Make It So.

I wish that I could put an /sarc on that, but I just happened across this charming bit from today's scheispeilfest.

Panetta: Iran Has Not Yet Decided to Make a Nuclear Bomb

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2830223/posts

I've long since lost any confidence that any of those fools had any interest in the country outside of their personal power and wealth, but lately they're beginning to sound like outtakes from either 1984, Through The Looking Glass or some kind of weird offspring of the two......

Only bright side is that I can now state that Iran is a nuclear weapons power beyond any doubts but where they're going to use 'em.

Okay, Leon. I just went HOT.

The other important point that was revealed from this election was that the polls and punditocracy have no clue who is going to win these elections. When you have Newt leading by 10 pts and Rick at 4 pts total and he ends up with 25% it tells you nobody is telling the pollsters what they are going to do.

Bray, this essay is a pure delight to read

AB, thanks very much for posting it in advance!

A little thread sidetrack:

In church today, visiting a very high Episcopal parish, I learned that “wise men” was not exactly the correct translation of the facts. The “magi” were astrologers, magicians, students of the arcane, and definitely not believers in the religion of Abraham. In fact, they were looked down on by the “establishment” (to use a modern codeword.) But they were the ones who recognized the Star as a sign from the Almighty instead of those inside established religion. Point being: God is here for everyone on earth!
