MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A Las Vegas billionaire has contributed $5 million to an independent group backing Newt Gingrich, breathing new life into the former House Speaker's struggling campaign for the GOP presidential nomination and casting renewed attention on the role of such groups in the 2012 contest.

A person familiar with the development said Sheldon Adelson, a casino mogul and longtime donor to Republican candidates, made the contribution Friday to Winning Our Future, a super PAC run by Gingrich allies. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said Adelson is expected to contribute as much or more to the candidate who eventually wins the Republican nomination, be it Gingrich or one of his rivals.

Wow, I guess he loved Gingrich's anti-Christian bigotry redirect too!

Maybe, but considering that this happened before the debate, it’s probably not a contributing factor. ;-)

Amazing how such stories never surface when it concerns the Left.

Too little, too late. Gingrich isn't going to be able to muster much electoral success. Such a brilliant mind, unable to master electoral politics. Some things haven't changed for him since Clinton used him as an effective foil in the '90s.

How I wish Marco Rubio were on the ballot.

Adelson hates the Obama regime... I heard him speak in 2010 and he was pretty clear about his feelings. Nice to see he is putting dollars to donuts.

Only 6 days in and you have dumbest post of the year won hands down.

Congratulations

And Marco Rubio is a degenerate little seat belt primary enforcement nanny state weasel.

This is great, but, the same thing happens every 4 years: The Conservatives split the vote 3 or 4 ways and the Moderate wins the nomination by a plurality. It looks like there is no way to stop Romney. Perry should have gotten his dumb ass out; he’s just taking votes from Newt and Santorum.

"And Marco Rubio is a degenerate little seat belt primary enforcement nanny state weasel."

I have a regular Obama-leaning passenger who routinely doesn't "buckle-up" in Marco Rubio's state of Florida. Whenever a trooper comes into view, I tell her "Pretend to be wearing your seatbelt—quickly!"

As she draws the seatbelt across, she asks, "Why should I pretend?". Then clicks the belt buckle in.

Adelson is also known for his philanthropy and has done many good things with his wealth. A great push for Newt. Philanthropy

Adelson donated over $25 million to the M.I.S. Hebrew Academy in Las Vegas to build a high school. In 2005, Adelson and his wife contributed $250,000 each (thus the total contribution from the couple was $500,000) to the second inauguration of President George W. Bush.[12][13][14] In 2006 Adelson contributed $25 million to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.[15] Since 2007 the Adelson Family Foundation has made contributions totalling $100 million to Birthright Israel, which finances Jewish youth trips to Israel.[16]

Adelson also has funded the Boston based Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Medical Research Foundation. AMRF is a private foundation committed to a model of open and highly integrated collaboration among outstanding investigators who participate in goal-directed basic and clinical research to prevent, reduce or eliminate disabling and life-threatening illness.[17] This foundation initiated the Adelson Program in Neural Repair and Rehabilitation (APNRR) with $7.5 million donated to collaborating researchers at 10 universities.[18]

[edit] Politics

In 2010, Adelson donated $1,000,000 to Newt Gingrich’s organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future.[19]

In 2011, Adelson is expected to donate an additional $20,000,000 to pro-Gingrich organizations in an effort to bolster Gingrich’s bid for the U.S. Presidency.[20]

Someone posted yesterday that the delegate vote coming out of Iowa was
Six for Romney, Santorum and Paul
Four for Newt
and two for Perry

Do you know how to verify this? If Perry drops out can he give his votes to another?
