Bachmann had no real national organization. Her only hope was a surprise (by the time September rolled around, it was pretty clear she wasn't going anywhere) victory in Iowa to jump-start the fundraising process.

For the most part, I can't see why she bothered staying in this long, except look at what the power of simply hanging around did for the current not-Romney of the week Santorum.
