U.S. Republican Presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry (L) greets attendees at a campaign stop in Spencer, Iowa December 17, 2011.
If we’re just going to focus on gimmicks, I have to say that 9-9-9 seems to have more meat.
I think Perry garners a part time job as Secretary of ________ in the Gingrich administation. (^ ;
Ok this isn’t half bad. never happen but its not half bad

Very good issue.
Good on Perry.
Don’t convert them to part time until they’ve repealed multiple volumes of the Federal Register. Otherwise you’ll just be leaving the bureaucrats running the country in their absence. Repealing what’s needed at best will probably take more than two terms. Even Reagan couldn’t do it in two. So this shouldn’t be a front burner issue although the concept may be worth keeping on the long term back burner.
This is a great idea and I would add a mandatory 10-year prison sentence for any representative who gets sweetheart deals or unduly enriches themselves while working in their part-time role.
Us texicans only let our legislature sit for short periods, they can do less damage to us legal citizens that way.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Which was the founders' total and unvarying intent.
Has anyone else read the Federalist Papers?
” - - - Perry saying he will advocate for a part-time Congress, with half the pay and half the staff.”
This is one of the very best ideas to come out of this Primary Campaign.
Nothing will change in the Congress as long as their paychecks remain large.
How about giving Congress men and women $10 bonus for each 1 Billion dollars cut from baseline spending?
Congress doesn’t need to be meddling in our lives 365 days a year and the idea’s great but the executive branch has no authority over congress.
Has Perry put forth ideas toward achieving that goal?
GO PERRY!
I’m all for it, but wouldn’t the very Congress legislate itself outta bydnyz?!

Thank you for this thread.
This article by Schoenberg poses this question: If Washingtons the problem, - - ?
Schoenberg did not explore the larger aspect of that question, but we here in Freeperville have a duty to do just that.
President Reagan rescued the US Economy by encouraging private business to grow the economy.
The economy grew, but the increase in predatory taxation and micromanagement regulation by the US Federal Government, grew much faster. Hence, it is no longer possible to “grow the economy.”
Thus today, it is not possible to grow the economy at a rate greater than 3 % per year, despite the best efforts of the Federal Reserve.
It is all well and good to repeal this taxation, or repeal that regulation, but those necessary actions do not resolve the question Is Washington the problem?
The entirety of Washington must be uniformly reduced. Rather than debating winners and losers, everyone who receives Federal money gets the same “Pay Haircut.”
If one compares the production ratios of our GDP to the Capital Destruction caused by the US Federal Government, the ratio is roughly 20 to 40 % Capital Destruction by the US Federal Government.
However, if the % of Capital Destruction were to be reduced to less than 10 % of the Americas GDP, then the 50 % total cut suggested by Perry for Congress would be an excellent blueprint for the rest of the STEELY BEAST known as the US Federal Government.
To those who scoff at this reasonable idea, allow me to remind you of how diificult it was for the Super Committee to cut ANYTHING from something as simple as the increase in the rate of spending for the next 10 years.
Congress has degenerated from a Republic comprised of elected officials to a us or them system which can easily be controlled by three people: Majority “Leader” in the Senate, Speaker of the House and a flavor of day pOTUS. The “Big” Federal Government has been reduced to a small government of just 3 people, without checks and balances.
As we look at the ideas brought forth by the Primary Candidates, let us look for what they propose to actually do to UNIFORMLY reduce the financial size of the US Federal Government, the Government that has proven itself a failure by becoming to big.
BTW, let us all ask the Primary Candidates this question: “Is Washington DC the main problem for the American people, businesses and core values?” Our Grandchildren want to know - - - - .
