Perry ad pushes for a part-time Congress - "Let them get a job back home like everyone else has."

Texas Governor Rick Perry is playing up his status as a “Washington outsider” in a new TV ad released today, which will air on broadcast and cable TV in Iowa.

The ad flashes a picture of the four current or former members of Congress running against Perry in the Republican presidential race: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Texas Representative Ron Paul, and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann.

“If Washington’s the problem, why trust a congressman to fix it?” the announcer says. The announcer says Perry’s opponents have spent a combined 63 years in Congress “leaving us with debt, earmarks, and bailouts.”

If we’re just going to focus on gimmicks, I have to say that 9-9-9 seems to have more meat.

Another great idea that has zero chance of being enacted. Do you think Congress would put itself out of business. It would take a constitutional convention of the states to do it...the media and the Democrats would never allow such a meeting.

It would be called “racist”.

The only possible choice we have is a new third party movement. Like Perot’s or Wallace’s without a nut bar like those two.

Somebody like a Chris Christie would have to step forward...don’t know if he has the gonads.

It’s not a gimmick. Texas meets for 140 days every OTHER year. They get their jobs done and then go home an dlive under the laws they pass. There is no reason why our congress can’t do that too. The only reason the forefathers didn’t impose that is because of the time it took to travel, but the intent was a citizen congress.

” “Let them get a job back home like everyone else has.”

Nobody out in the ‘real world’ would hire them - they steal...

I agree. The truth is the being a member of Congress was never intended by the framers to be either a full-time job or a permanent career.

The less time they're there, the less time they have to screw things up even more than they already have.

Texas has a Balanced Budget Amendment (which Perry is also calling for. Pipe dream too?) and a Congress that meets 140 days every 2 years. We will have a 1.6 billion dollar surplus at the end of the biennium because Perry and Congress cut spending and Perry is in the business of creating jobs which creates revenue.

Compare each candidates statistics to Obama and see which one crushes him. It's Perry.

I ask you this, what will the eventual Republican nominee run against Obama on?

And they should live under the same laws they pass for us.

The arrogance, that they are exempt from Obama care.

Amendin' the Constitution to change how the founders DESIGNED Congress to be is an assault on our Republic and destroys the fabric of our nation and our precious traditions in America... unless *I'm* the one proposing an amendment changing the branches the government. Then it's not only OK, it's necessary. Yee-haw!

Gov. Perry was the first Texas governor since WWII to cut general revenue spending.
