Romney Touts Himself As Successful Consensus Builder
Philip Rucker December 23
When Mitt Romney was governor, he had a routine: Every Monday afternoon at 3, he would meet with the two Democrats who controlled the Massachusetts legislature. They rotated offices each week and, over cheese, juice and popcorn, the three negotiated the budget, taxes and health care. Sometimes they just chitchatted about movies, leaving Romney to wonder whether he had just wasted an hour.
This was how Romney governed as a Republican here on Beacon Hill, where the legislature was 85 percent Democratic. He was practical, not ideological. He was polite and formal, even in his Cabinet meetings, and kept his guard up with those outside his tight circle of loyalists. He forged relationships based on respect, but rarely trust. He sought compromise whenever possible, knowing that he would accomplish nothing if he didnt win support from the other side.
Romney achieved results with this approach, and he thinks he can do the same in Washington. On the campaign trail, he touts himself as a consensus builder a leader in ways that he charges President Obama is not. Romney said he could have broken the stalemate in Congress over extending the payroll tax cut by summoning both parties leaders to the White House. And if they didnt show up, he said, he would have ventured down Pennsylvania Avenue to their offices.
A leader listens to the people who are ones opponents and you find ways of bringing people together, Romney said this week while campaigning in New Hampshire. Being a GOP governor in Democratic Massachusetts, he added, taught me I had to get along. I couldnt attack the speaker of the House or the Senate president because I had to work with those guys to get anything done.

In other words, a turncoat aisle-crossing RINO.
The key to “getting along” with Democrats is to give them everything they ask for. Romney has the skill to pull this off.
You get along by going along.
That’s the way its always been.
Romney is not going to
Make it. Tea party says no.
IOW he won't spit he will swallow all the Dimwhitcrats shove down his throat.
I don't care if it means four more years of Obama I won't vote for Mitt!
I guess no one ever told him that Nice Guys Run Last!!!!
WaPo-Obama beating the drum for Willard, just like the talking points summit at the White Hut said to do.
God help us if this namby pamby squish gets nominated.
Pray for America.
That's what I'm afraid of.
So who’ll be his vice president? Linseed Grahamnesty? Charlie “Green Iguana” Crist? Jeb Bush? Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
Go along to get along Romney. Newt has a milder form of the same disease but Mitt’s is terminal.
A leader of the USA people listens to the people. Is this such an outdated concept? From what is said here I hear Romney is a leader for politicians not necessarily for the people of the USA.
Mitt Romney is so pathetic that when he gets angry, he doesn’t turn into the Hulk, not even Bill Bixby! Instead, he turns into a Yorkie (yip-yip-yip!!!).
Just what we need, the status quo. NOT! We need someone to shake things up in Washington and I beleive the best person to do that is Newt Gingrich. I think Sarah Palin would also do it. GO NEWT!
Sadly Palin and Cain remain on the sidelines. Wish they come forward and make an endorsement.
I remember Romney appointing demoncrat judges in MA... No thanks.
The only thing Romneybamadingdong knows is how to sell Republicans and conservatives and Americans out to the socialist/Marxist Donkeys. Mittens is a POS.
