Georgia Gun Owners Blast Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich’s record disturbing to home state gun owners

Georgia gun owners long aware of Newt’s anti-gun record

Kennesaw, GA – The 6,000 members and supporters of the premier grassroots gun rights group in Georgia, Georgia Gun Owners, began buzzing the phone lines of the Newt 2012 Iowa campaign headquarters (515-468-9225) demanding Mr. Gingrich apologize to gun owners for his more than two-decade history of supporting gun control.

“Georgia Gun Owners knows Newt’s history of gun control. He represented parts of our state for 20 years. He’s been playing both sides of the gun issue as long as we can remember.

Take a look at the Marietta (GA) Daily Journal from September 16, 1996. The headline is ‘Gingrich supports gun ban.’ I remember Newt’s betrayal of gun owners back in the 90s like it was yesterday,” said D.R. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.

While Newt used the institutional gun lobby as a mouthpiece to convince millions of gun owners nationwide that “as long as he is Speaker, no gun-control legislation is going to move in committee or on the House floor,” he was working behind the scenes to pass gun control. In 1996, Newt Gingrich turned his back on gun owners and voted for the anti-gun Brady Campaign’s Lautenberg Gun Ban, which strips the Second Amendment rights of citizens involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges or temporary protection orders — in some cases for actions as minor as spanking a child.

Gingrich also stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the “Criminal Safezones Act” which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations. Virtually all Americans know that Criminal Safezones don’t protect law-abiding citizens, but actually protect the criminals who ignore them. “But the biggest knife that Newt plunged into the back of all Americans and gun owners who wish to defend themselves and their families, was his coming out in support of a national thumbprint database for gun owners,” said Mr. Leonard.

“I think we prefer to go to instant check on an immediate basis and try to accelerate implementing instant checks so that you could literally check by thumbprint… Instant check is a much better system than the Brady process.” — Newt Gingrich, June 27, 1997 “Newt Gingrich is no friend of gun owners. I wish Georgia Gun Owners had a mountaintop to scream this information from. We just want like-minded voters in early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to be aware of this.

Newt is trying really hard to play both sides of the Second Amendment. He’s a professional politician. But as the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. It’s in his record. His own words and votes. He’s a danger to our Second Amendment rights and privacy. The members of Georgia Gun Owners know this. We want ALL Americans to know this as well,” said Mr. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.

Some of the contenders (such as Rick Perry and Ron Paul) have pro-gun records to run on. Others (such as Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich) have very mixed or anti-gun records in their haunted past. Compared to some of the others, Newt's record is dismal...and similar to Mitts
Ron Paul...............A+
Rick Perry.............A
Michelle Bachmann......A
Rick Santorum..........B-
Newt Gingrich..........C
Mitt Romney............D-

Bachmann and Paul proving to be key leaders....In this respect, Congressman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has been a true hero. She has stood up, frequently alone, to oppose any debt limit deal that would allow the money to be used to implement the anti-gun ObamaCare law. This is a critical bottom line for gun owners. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) has also spoken out against a deal to raise the debt limit, spearheading a drive that gets other congressmen to sign a “Cut, Cap, and Balance” pledge."

You're not supposed to say anything bad about Noot around here!

You know people get upset about it.

You're just supposed to get behind their candidate-of-choice and STFU.

Rick Perry may get an A in right to bear arms, but there is no way in h, e, double hockey sticks that Americans will elect another Texican anytime soon.

So pick between Newt and Myth, unless somehow Ron Paul (ooooops, Texican).

I was a "Friend of Newt" back in the 90s. Until he started this anti-RKBA crap. He hasn't gotten $hit from me since and never will.

Now we are told to vote for Newt or Mitt Romney wins Primary, only to lose to Obi in Presidential election. When or when do we Republicans get to vote FOR someone and not AGAINST someone??!!!!!

That seems to be the case regardless of who the candidate is. Further, failure to support said candidate will result in you being accused of voting for obama.
Newt’s a pro politician who will do whatever gets him across the finish line. He’s all about numero uno.

Great. So we have the two lowest dogs and we are going with the lesser of the worst as always. We as a group are so stupid. We have every opportunity to pick a total package in Bachmann and she is ignored because she fights back against the “men”.

The real problem is that he will play both sides of an issue, not just gun control. It’s hard to know who he is, and what he believes.

Thats not the reason. The reason is because the media has twisted her words and taken things out of context and hyped monor gaffs to the point that many people, including many conservatives, think she’s a flake.

Lets look at the named contenders agains Mitt and see their grade at getting elected.

Ron Paul = F
Rick Perry = C
Michelle Bachman + F
Rick Santorum = C
Newt Gingrich = B
Mitt Romney = C-

These are my figures of course and none are guaranteed to beat Obama. It’s going to be a rough one to win, but IMO Newt has the best chance at this particular time.
Santorum has a chance of earning a higher rate the others are pretty much stagnant.

Newt may sway back and forth on gun control, but we all know Obama is dead set against guns. The President doesnt pass gun legislation anwyay he only signs the bill.

If we are worried about gun legislation we need to keep the House and win the Senate. We need to place Eric Holder in jail and we need to get rid of Obama. We need to encourage Republican RINO’s to grow a pair, since there is little doubt wqe can replace them with real Republicans.

They are doing that will all the candidates. Why are conservatives letting the msm basically determine who the Republican nominee will be?

Newt was rated as “A” by GOA in 1994. A year later he was rated a “D” by GOA. Most of us, at that time, were appalled at the rapidity of his change. Stunning...Once he became Speaker? He trashed us (RKBA). What will he do as President?

Have a huntin buddy from Covington, Ga; comes up here to Alaska hunting with us every fall. I was talking to him the other day and he was all about Newt. I tried telling him the truth about his home state guy, but he couldn't hear me.

Me thinks all the independents & a bunch of Repubs will stay home if Newts the man. Others say he will come across like Reagen but I think too many of us won't trust the crook.
