..A few of Newt Gingrichs Not-So-Greatest Hits:
August 30, 2004: Now hes back, preaching the gospel of party moderation. At an Aug. 30 forum held by the centrist Republican Main Street Partnership, Gingrich heralded the GOPs new, bigger big tent. Everywhere Ive been, Ive argued in favor of electing the moderates, Gingrich said He even chastised the fiscally conservative Club for Growth a group that finances primary challengers to Republican incumbents they deem too liberal for not getting with the program. Their strategy is explicitly wrong, Gingrich said. The key is to elect more Republicans and have a bigger majority and be more inclusive.
In June 2005, the New York Times raved about a balanced and thoughtful report from a bipartisan task force headed by Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, and George Mitchell, the former Senate majority leader, declaring, Lawmakers should take the time to at least thumb through this report, especially those who have been demanding Secretary General Kofi Annans resignation, supporting the ill-conceived nomination of John Bolton as the United States ambassador to the United Nations and backing the latest benighted attempt to withhold Americas legally obligated dues.
In October 2005, Gingrich called for universal but confidential DNA testing.
In April 2006,...
In April 2007, he raved about the leadership skills of New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg:....
....In 2007, he accused the Bush administration of fighting a phony war on terrorism, and declared a more effective approach would begin with a national energy strategy aimed at weaning the country from its reliance on imported oil.
In 2008, he hailed John McCains efforts in the crafting of the TARP legislation:....

So you agree that Senate Republicans are wrong in saying that extending the payroll(FICA/SS) tax cut must be paid for?
“Conservatives” make the media’s job much easier by talking out of both sides of their mouths on tax cuts.
Those are just RINOs. We know who we can trust. The media really does carry the water for the DNC though. If their mouth had more than 2 sides, they would be talking out of those too but far be it from the media to ever point it out. They make things look the way they want them to look and they will keeep doing it until it doesn’t work any more. We gave them this power, we must now take it back..
Two points, two practical and the other political.
1) Cutting taxes and then spending that money you didn't collect in taxes by running up debts does not inspire confidence indefinitely, because the money comes from someplace. It's a temporary Keynesian stimulus no magical fix.
2) Reagan didnt have a educated high skill lost cost huge China to compete with that we do. He just had Japan and some jobs did go to Japan at the time. Unlike 30 years ago, much more of general tax cuts will be used to buy Chinese goods and invest in Chinese factories and other overseas jobs than ever before.
And political : as a purely political argument the idea of taking from the rich to hire a voter/unemployed worker sounds more certain to him than lowering taxes further and hoping that beneficiary spends it or invests it here. And if that voter doesnt think he is the one to be taxed he is likely to think it's even better.
Republicans need to update their points to reflect the current economy. And 'Starve the Beast' is not compatible with 'Tax cuts are free'.
Remember, there are 310 million people in this country, roughly 60% of voting age and eligibility, meaning roughly 186 million people are voting age. Of those, if trends hold true, we’ll have roughly 72% of the voters turn out. That’s roughly some 134 million voters. Obama will have some 30% that loyally vote Democrat no matter what. Leaving some 40.2 million votes for Obama. The rest are those who are making a decision on Obama or the Republican or some 3rd party candidate. Here’s the problem with that. We’re looking at roughly 94 million undecided or Republican and 99 million who will vote Obama. The dead talk.
You mean the Senate Republicans who are saying that extending the payroll(FICA/SS) tax cut must be paid for?
I actually like the lady posting this thread but she’s pimping for Perry...all well and good
but she’s drawing Cainiacs like flies to the patty
i guess any tear down Newt thread will do
FR is way out of sync with most GOP voter polls we are seeing...way way off with the Cain love
good luck ya’ll (not u dear per se)
Democrats argument is that you cut the payroll(FICA/SS) tax extension and pay for it by taxing the rich. And that is going to be popular sounding given who would 'get' and who would 'pay'. Democrats poll test all their attacks.
A real debate on that Dem proposal that the rich in effect pay our FICA taxes would be the nature of entitlements like SS and what entitles voters to them .

I haven’t really kept up with that. There is soooooo much going on it is hard to keep up with all of it. I was making a general statement. Please fill me in.

sickoflibs, do you remember which Senate Republicans were saying that extending the payroll (FICA/SS) tax cut must be paid for?
I saw Kyl doing it on TV. I think it was a clip replayed from a Sunday show. And he has a point unless Republicans were willing to talk about reforming SS as part of it, which they are too scared to.
I have confirmed those numbers in several places. 40/21%
Yes, the country is basically conservative.
However, that leaves 39% to make up their mind and they elect the president.
It simply tell us all how bad Bob Dole and what's his name were.
You have confirmed those numbers how? A poll that asks people if they're conservative or liberal is not going to find out how many people are conservative. A large portion of the Country thought Bush was "conservative" and think Carl Rove and Mitt Romney are "conservative".
I stand by my opinion that about 15% of Americans are conservative, about 15 % are liberal, and 70% have no real ideology but vote personality and promises.
Yes, I have heard Rush in the past saying that tax cuts shouldn't have to be compensated for because of that magic formula. But then he got stuck in the GWB boat that didn't end too well.
Democrats now claim that spending pays for itself by creating jobs and revenue. They learned how to talk. The liberal Santa pays for it.
we have to pay for a measure like this, and I think we will pay for it.’ -
Did he mean “we’ll pay for it” politically, or financially?
Thanks. It sure looks like the dem party is not playing by the same rules as the Pubs are. In the article they admit to doing this so that the Repubs look bad. Why are they allowing this?

This call to mind when Pelosi said that for every dollar they spend we get 2 dollars back. Remember? I’m sure she worked that one out on her abacus (with her stone and chisel at her side). Funny thing is, I don’t remember the media calling her out on it and they will likely be silent again.
