WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KMOX) - A chain of three stores that sells survival food and gear reports a jump in sales to people who are getting prepared for the “possible collapse” of society.

“We had to order fifty cases of the meals ready to eat to keep up with the demand in the past three months,” said manager Steve Dorsey at Uncle Sam’s Safari Outfitters Inc. in Webster Groves. “That’s not normal. Usually we sell 20 to 30 cases in a whole year.”

Dorsey says business has been brisk since the spring uprisings in the middle east, as customers share concerns about political uprisings, the world economy and the future of the United States

This is unlike anything I've ever heard of in our history. I've never read anything about a spontaneous movement like this during the Depression.

Don’t worry. It can’t happen here. Honest. Really . . . right?

Dorsey himself admits that he does not have a personal supply of meals ready to eat stashed in his basement. “We live just two minutes from the store,” he said, “If something happens, I can drive right over here.”

Yeah, like the guy who lives one minute away wouldn't loot it first.

There were a lot of such people in the fifties and the sixties when nuclear war was a plausible possibility. Backyard bomb shelters and public "civil defense" shelters were a reality. It died away during the halcyon days of Reagan and Bush41, but now the evil is not an alien empire but a domestic band of traitors under the flag of the DNC. If anything the threat is more serious now than ever before.

Still, complete breakdown, such as the doomsayers envision, is just not in the cards, unless there is a nuclear attack with EMP and/or blast damage in major cities. I rate the probability of this as very low.

A collapse of society could occur in a financial/economic collapse. If supermarkets are looted then there won’t be much food left for everyone else. EMP/Nuclear attacks are not the only threat.

Black clouds cover the horizon, the lightening is flashing and there is the distant sound of thunder! The storm flags are going up, who you heed them?

I am very aware that if it’s the great end that there is nothing I can do to stop or change it, but history is full of instances and times when man or nature have caused such a calamity that people have cried out and begged God to end it all.

The bible has many verse such as this:

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

This verse and others are there for a reason and I urge all to take heed of them, because we are clearly on the edge. Everyday there is a new story about the ‘Yutes’ who grow more restless everyday and when you add the fact that because of the economy people are already on edge it won’t take much to set things off.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

Today we have ‘yutes’ who roam our streets who are with out morals, without respect for law or life itself. They will look are you with the same ‘doll eyes’ a shark does before he eats you and they will feel no more compassion than the shark does.

That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

For a somber, yet realistic look at what SHFT is like read some of Selco’s post:

If you like to read more about what SHTF in Bosnia was like take a look at this post on Bosnia War Survivor Selco’s Blog at:

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.”

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

This all really comes down to the fact that there are no trends to the positive and lot of trends continuing more negative.

I tell everyone that will listen that you do not want to be anywhere near a retail or grocery store when the wheels come off. We have millions who are absolutely dependent on Uncle Sugah for their daily sustenance. When the checks stop coming, it’s Katie bar the door and you will truly see the ugly side of humanity.

Better to let them eat themselves but have a plan to keep them from you and yours.

On my drive home today I seriously pondered the pros and cons of getting a civilian version of the M-4.

If I were wealthy, I would be looking to see what friendly nation I would set up an alternate residence in.

There are ways to 'go international' that anybody can afford. I did it 10 years ago and it proved to be one of the best moves I ever made. All it takes is a leap of faith.

If I had to pick a country today as a remote safe haven it would be Panama, BTW.

I beg to differ it doesn’t take much nor long for SHTF.

Really?

China and other nations announce they will no longer use the dollar as default currency....or perhaps the US defaults on its debt.
The value of the dollar falls badly...it is becoming an hourly watch to see what the dollar is worth.
Meanwhile, truck drivers that need to buy diesel fuel to run cannot afford it because the price is over $100 per gallon and rising. The same fuel that trains use to transport coal to power plants is near unaffordable. Large portions of the country go dark for extended periods. People flood to their food and grocery stores to stock up. It won't take long for the shelves to be empty. After a few weeks of this, it is only getting worse as gangs of inner city animals start moving outward to the suburbs looking for food and fun as they rape and pillage anyone who can't defend themselves. The spiral downward will continue unabated as the rule of law at the local level breaks down because the local constabulary has no officers...they're home defending their turf against the horde. (I know a great many LEOs...this will happen.)

No EMP necessary at all.

So true. In the Depression 80% lived on farms and about 20% in the cities. Now its just the opposite. If we have a bank shutdown and people cannot used their atm cards it will be mass chaos. The grocery stores will be emptied in a day. There will be rioting outside the banks. Wait til those GA Peach cards won’t swipe at the sto no mo. The inner city will be a nightmare. Everybody should have some beans and bullets put away.

OK.

I listened to a brodcast the other night that featured a researcher named Matt Stein. He wrote a couple books, one of which is “When Technology Fails...”

He was very well informed and knew what he was talking about.

His main fear is not atomic attack or EMP.

It’s SOLAR!!

The reason is the way things are set up. US uses or has online some 2,000 of these huge like 350KV transformers.

In 1929 there was a solar storm that, if it happened today, would blow a good many of these to kingdom come.

We make ZERO of them in the United States.

Current wait time for new ones IS ABOUT TWO YEARS!

OK.... so that happened in 1929... big deal...
except there were two solar storms in 1890 that were even bigger.

And it looks like the solar max we are heading into now is gonna be a doozie!!!

Will society have a complete and total breakdown/collapse? I honestly don’t know, and I don’t know what the official criteria for a “breakdown” would be. But never underestimate two things: (1) the amazingly thin veneer that allows us to maintain the appearance of “normalcy.” How civilized will we appear when we have gone two days without a meal..a week without a meal? (2) The power of mass psychology or group-think. If as few as 20% of Americans think that we have reached that nebulous state of “breakdown,” then it won’t take long until 40% believe it, then 50%, then 75%, etc. The danger is not whether we truly “break” (again, whatever that means), it’s the social psychological effect of ever increasing numbers who believe it will happen or is already happening. A self-fulfilling prophecy on steroids.
