Cain’s Pains: Let’s Talk about Character
The New American ^ | Saturday, 12 November 2011 | Selwyn Duke

In the Republican debate on Wednesday, moderator Maria Bartiromo raised the issue of the sexual-harassment allegations that have plagued Herman Cain. “Why should the American people hire a president if they feel there are character issues?” she asked the GOP hopeful. It’s a question we should pose more often.

That’s not to say I lend credence to the charges leveled against Cain. It’s not uncommon today for well-heeled entities to pay five-figure settlements to put nuisance lawsuits to bed — as Cain’s former employer, the National Restaurant Association, has — and a couple of the candidate’s accusers have questionable backgrounds. It’s also odd that, as Ann Coulter pointed out, the allegations leveled against Cain have a David Axelrod connection. Axelrod has been called Barack Obama’s “hired muscle” by the New York Times, and he has a history of smearing Obama opponents with accusations of sexual misconduct. And what is this Axelrod connection? Among other things, Cain’s latest accuser, Sharon Bialek, once lived in Axelrod’s building, and she admits having met the political hit man. But you can read Coulter’s piece for the rest of that story, because my focus here will be different. After all, character does matter and all prospective leaders deserve scrutiny.

And this brings me to my point. If I’d been a candidate at the debate, I would have loved to have chimed in when my turn came and made this statement:

Like the author, I'd like to see focus on Obama too.

So would I, unfortunately Rove and the GOP media machine thought it was more important to pimp the Cain smear then focus on the issues.

Character is simply another tool that the left uses against conservatives. Other than that it’s meaningless to a leftist.

...Crystal Mangum, a stripper with a history of mental problems and use of anti-psychotic medication. She also just this year stabbed her boyfriend...

Actually, it was a tad worse than just a stabbing. Mangum murdered her boyfriend; the man died from his wounds.

Leftists only have one “morality” - anything which advances Communism is a moral good.

The same libs who are going on and on about “character” when it comes to Cain have no problem with Zero and Clinton, both of whom lack even a shred of character.

Character is not only meaningless to the leftist political crackwhores of the media, it is antithetical to them.

If the question was exactly put in this way:

“Why should the American people hire a president if they feel there are character issues?”

...then it seems flawed because just “feeling” there are character issues should not influence a decision. Now, if there are substantiated FACTS indicating bad character, that is another thing. She accidentally reveals the purpose of any smear campaign, which is to create a sort of vague “FEELING” about an issue or person. oops.

People need to be trained to focus on the difference between their feelings and actual facts so that the left is not allowed to take us off track as they almost always do with their “Look over there” tactics.

Yes, character may be meaningless to liberals, but it should be meaningful to conservatives. Otherwise we become no different if we too adopt the amoral philosophy of “the end justifies the means" in ANY respect.

Candidates need to understand that many of us Conservatives do not watch socialist media so we do not see you debate or care what they ask you. It's all a set up to make especially Conservative candidates look unelectable. The Republicans who decide to have debates in the left wing arena are idiots. It's the same people who gave us Obama who are now framing our arguements. Use the new media and let the old one die...Please!
