Does this indicate a move AWAY from their failed socialism and toward a free market based economy?

So, he wins the vote yesterday and then decides to resign.
What was the point of the vote?

Papandreou’s resignation was the price that the Greek opposition leader, Antonis Samaras, wanted for his support of the debt deal.

Since Greece is still in the EU, Greece is still hosed. Everything else is the EU attempting to put lipstick on a pig.

He was given the option......resign or be fired. The confidence vote takes away the being fired stigma.

The totality of the action is nothing has changed to resolve the debacle. The Euro’s solution will be accepted. The face saving fight was actually lost. The can will be kicked down the road.

The important point is that banks will remain solvent. That is really all that matters.

This won't solve anything.

Greece, the rest of Europe, and the United States have to stop the bleeding.

The open wound is entitlements paid to an aging population that is working less, gone on disability, retired early, or given up working altogether.

During the 1930's, the US was sick economically, but in terms of innovation we were making incredible strides in electronics, manufacturing, transportation, plastics, synthetics, aviation, and bio-medicine.

Today, we are limping along like a sick dog.

Politicians refuse to tell their voters the truth: the voters have promised themselves endless checks and benefits that no nation can afford.

I fear that the only "solution" will be total global meltdown. That is the only thing that will shake voters and citizens out of their fantasy delusion that the retirement, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and disability checks will keep on rolling in forever.

Unfortunately, that "solution" is also the nuclear option. Our world will be destroyed, and remade under what I can only guess will be a one-world totalitarian regime under the thumb of pure evil.

From my point of view it appears to be just another case of ‘kick the can down the road’. My question is why? Are they hoping for an economic or banking miracle? Or are the trying to delay as long as possible so as to remove their nest eggs from a failing system and therefore be set up for whatever happens in the future?

Yes, funded....no doubt...by the latest debt deal. They can agree to any deal and austerity measures that come down the pike. Bottom line is: They have to execute the plan. Somehow, I don't see that happening.

Expecting bailouts agreements to correct Greece is like expecting UN sanctions to stop Iran from building nukes.
