Maybe people aren’t scared of him at all, they’ve just chosen to support someone else in the primaries. I had no preconceived notions about Perry because I knew very little about him. And it’s ridiculous to run around the thread talking about how all these things were all Perry’s ideas. The whole dang conservative side of the country has been discussing many of these things for decades. Texans have the advantage of living in a mostly conservative state that’s willing to enact conservative legislation. Here in Oregon, not so much but that doesn’t mean we haven’t understood how important they are to the country. I don’t really have a problem with people discussing how well these things have worked in states where they’ve been tried because it proves what we’ve all been saying is right. But to be so completely condescending that you’re candidate is the only one who could possibly do all these things because he’s done some of them on a state level is absurd. First he’s got to be able to convince the electorate he’s the right person for the job.

If he can’t even convince the base who pays closer attention to politics than the rest of the country, how will he convince the general electorate who pays much less attention? One of the few ways the masses have to observe the candidates is through the debates. Perry is a professional politician with 20 years of experience and hasn’t improved enough in that amount of time to stand on a stage and get his ideas across succinctly and clearly. I didn’t care that he didn’t do well in the first debate but he never got better. For better or worse we live in a soundbite society where people have to be able to think on their feet. I’m not convinced that Perry can do that.

My point is since all three share the same platform and proposals, why not support the candidate who is itching to take it to Obama?

Perry will tear zero up like a ragdoll. The other two... I dunno. They seem more like consensus-builders and reach-across-the-aisle type guys.

After seeing him in several debates, I'm firmly convinced he can't do that!
