Ron Paul proposes $1T in specific budget cuts ($1 Trillion in annual cuts to Fedzilla)

Ron Paul’s opinions about cutting the budget are well-known, but on Monday, he got specific: The Texas congressman laid out a budget blueprint for deep and far-reaching cuts to federal spending, including the elimination of five Cabinet-level departments and the drawdown of American troops fighting overseas.

There’s even a symbolic readjustment of the president’s salary to put it in line with the average American salary.

“Our debt is too big, our government is too big, and we have to recognize how serious the problem is,” Paul said during an afternoon speech in Las Vegas ahead of Tuesday’s GOP debate there.

The plan, Paul said, would cut $1 trillion in spending his first year in the White House and create a balanced federal budget by the third year of his presidency.

“All the current candidates and many in Washington, they sort of talk around [the problem],” Paul said. “A lot of people will say, ‘well cutting a trillion dollars in one year is radical.’ Well, I operate under the assumption that the radicals have been in charge for way too long.”

“You cut government spending, that money goes back to you. You get to spend the money,” Paul said during his speech. “I am absolutely convinced it is the only road to prosperity.”

Ron Paul is a kook. But in the Department of Education he has definitely signaled out a Federal Agency that can be eliminated- Totally. That's a no brainer!

“Ron Paul proposes $1T in specific budget cuts ($1 Trillion in annual cuts to Fedzilla)”

Good starting point.

Thank you, Mr. Paul

I just read the whole article.

I gotta say, so far he’s winning my vote. But knowing paul, he’ll turn kooky again between now and november. I think he’s being a little hard on the president’s salary though. I’d let him make twice that much.

“All the current candidates and many in Washington, they sort of talk around [the problem],” Paul said. “A lot of people will say, ‘well cutting a trillion dollars in one year is radical.’ Well, I operate under the assumption that the radicals have been in charge for way too long.” . . . But Paul goes further, proposing an immediate freeze on spending by numerous government agencies at levels from 2006 . . . .

It is sad that rolling back spending to the levels of 5 years ago is considered radical. This is exactly what we need and it wouldn't hurt people one damn bit. We need One Trillion of cuts PER YEAR. That will solve our problem. Take the recession hit that will come but then, as in 1920 and every other year we did this, the economy will come roaring back after it detoxes from government spending. If Paul wasn't such a nut on foreign policy, I'd be supporting him.

While he’s one of the biggest “Pork” recipients,
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2204751/posts

we’re supposed to believe that Paul would “take an ax” to the defense budget. And don’t forget, that “ax” would probably cut border security, as well.

However, the President has more power in directing Executive Branch regulations, hiring and spending. Congress wouldn’t be needed to achieve a lot of the bureaucratic cuts, as Governor Perry has pointed out.

how about selling off AMTRACK and making the TSA go private again , hopefully with security firms which employ vets.

How much could we save in just those two areas?

I see your Dept of Education and raise you the TSA. I don’t think anyone would complain if we immediately disbanded it and gave its function back to the airports.

I just wanna know why none of the rest of the GOP field is saying these things.

Interesting proposals. I'd like to see more details and I would also make one change. Make the salary of Congressmen and Senators the same $49,500, which is the median family income. I'm willing to allow them the extra $10 grand to keep the kiddies in Keds.

>>Ron Paul is a kook<<

An accomplished doctor, congressman and leader in constitutional restoration....yea right, a kook.

Wonder, how much of your personal time have you invested in fighting for our country?

I’ve never voted for Ron Paul and I’m not even sure I ever will, but to label the guy a kook......come on.

Broken clock moment from Crazy Uncle Paul.

I can count on all my fingers, toes and still run out of digits the number of times I've heard that "broken clock" metaphor about Ron Paul. More than twice ISN'T "a broken clock" -- it's someone who has foresight.

Everyone says he is crazy and maybe he is, but we need someone in there that will attack our number one problem, the unbelievably outrageous speniding of our federal government.

He is the only candidate who will not just kick the can down the road. No other candidate thinks it is a problem, when if fact it is the single biggest threat to our nation.

“”I think he’s being a little hard on the president’s salary though. I’d let him make twice that much.””

What? Why? If the man had any decency, he’d work for $1.00 a year. He likes to brag about how much money he has. Let him make the sacrifice. Let’s BE FAIR!!!!

“You cut government spending...I am absolutely convinced it is the only road to prosperity.”

WOOOHOOOO! HOORAY Ron Paul!

“Well, I operate under the assumption that the radicals have been in charge for way too long.”

You KNOW that’s true, Ron. Don’t be afraid to name them. You could tell the members of the Progressive (extortion) Caucus to pound sand for starters.

DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic. We live as very low-taxed, prosperous, productive citizens in a country which acts as a beacon for individual liberty.
