Why is this so difficult for a Harvard educated person? It is not LESS people, it is FEWER people. Sometimes even the grocery store gets this right and puts up a sign that says: Ten items or fewer. Why is the fewer/less thing so vexing to folks?

The “Demonic Fringe” is still at it; seeking to polarize issues and otherwise destroy any hope of meaningful compromise - which, BTW, I suspect is their objective - in order to proclaim the “high ground”. Not defending the president by any means, but the quote that included "less people" looked to be a paraphrase to me since it has only single quotation marks around it in the PM blog.

But a Google search found almost 500 hits on the phrase "Dirtier air, dirtier water, less people with health insurance," -- and that included such reputable publications as the Christian Science Monitor. Surely they wouldn't make up a usage error just to embarrass the president (their president). So I['m convinced The One really did say that.

Perhaps Republicans can counter that they would like "lesser people" to have health care as much as "greater people" do? Maybe one person (not people!) in ten would comprehend.

Oh, and whoever it was that posted "The Republicans plan, Obama says, boils down to this" on Real Clear Politics left out the possessive apostrophe with Republicans. I plan, you plan, Republicans plan, sometimes, when they feel the need to. Google shoes it's been copied at least 114 times onto various blogs with the same error, never once corrected.
