Herman Cain named Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) as potential running mates should he secure the Republican presidential nomination for the 2012 election.

Speaking Thursday on "The Steve Gill Show," Cain outlined the qualities he would like in a running mate, and then, unprovoked, offered specific names.

“There are some people in Congress that are very, very good, that I respect and admire and that I would love to have on my team,” Cain said. “Whether that would be in a V.P. slot or in a key Cabinet slot … I’ll give you a name — like Representative Paul Ryan. I’m not saying he would be the V.P. pick, he might be, but that’s the type of person I would want in my Cabinet. He’s the type of person. Sen. Jim DeMint — people who are not afraid to challenge the system

Whether or not Herman Cain actually chooses Paul Ryan or Jim DeMint for his VP, I like his way of thinking. I’m definitely on the ‘Cain Train’!

I respectfully disagree when it comes to Ryan. He talks a good game. But, his voting is typical liberal in nature and for Gov’t, ie TARP, Auto bailout, No Child left behind, Bush budgets, Medicare plan D.

Why would DeMint or Ryan leave powerful jobs in Congress/Senate and sign on to be a VP (bucket of warm spit) for a novice who has never won an election and knows nothing about how to work around govt bureaucracies?

Sounds like Herm is tossing out names

If either DeMint ot Ryan was really interested in the WH vs Congress, Herm would be a dot on the distant polling horizon

Oh my gosh, I would be thrilled with either, but especially Paul Ryan. I like his crisp no-nonsense approach to issues.

Cain also said that he’d seek the help of his friend — and fellow competitor — Newt Gingrich as a campaign manager, chief of staff or strategist.

“Newt is a brilliant mind,” he said. “I don’t know how things are going to turn out, but I would call upon Newt Gingrich to assist me at some point in some way because he brings so much knowledge and insight to this whole process, but more importantly, to the problems we face in this country.”

That’s pretty delicious.

Picture Cain and DeMint speaking code to each other in their deep Southern accents - (that’ll make the Dems call for English as the official language) SHO ‘NUFF!!!!!

Tell me who HAS successfully worked around government bureaucracies. Reagan didn’t, neither Bush did either. Carter, Clinton and Obama certainly haven’t. Why is it impossible for a non-politician to do it? Cain has incredible leadership ability. If he can get elected, he would be a fine executive in the public sector just as he was in the private sector.
