That’s funny. I thought they came in at 401,000 last week.

Now it was revised up to 405,000 so that 404,000 is a “drop.”

What a bunch of jokers.

Yep. They are getting away with it, so why don’t they just improve the numbers even more?

“The number of Americans who filed applications for unemployment benefits inched down by 1,000 last week to 404,000, the government reported Thursday. Initial claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 405,000 from an original reading of 401,000, the Labor Department said.”

Every week.. the same game. Quietly bump up the previous week's numbers in order to make the new figures look better by comparison. It is truly a sick joke.

This means last time the rise was not 6,000 but 10,000...

It’s getting hard to keep up with the revisions...

They should have just revised last week to 475K , then we could have a real rally this week...

It seems that they fixed that ‘technical difficulty’ that caused the number to dip into the 390’s a couple of weeks ago.

They will keep that ‘technical difficulty’ handy to use next year to make the numbers seem better than they actually are — as election time nears.

Given their constant adjustment of 3,000 or so, this is simply a rounding error.

The Labor Department cooks the numbers then AP and Reuters ‘season’ them to add the appropriate flavor as being unexpected, moderate, positive, etc. The ‘dish’ is then ready for consumption by the public. Guaranteed to taste good!
