Christopher Hitchens said that his 'time' is coming as he made his first public appearance in months...The controversial writer and fervent atheist, who is suffering from oesophagus cancer, attended the Atheist Alliance of America conference in Texas where he was presented an award by Richard Dawkins.
The 62-year-old said that he had been determined to attend the conference because of the state's Bible Belt devotion. Receiving the Richard Dawkins Freethinker of the Year Award, Hitchens looked gaunt and his voice was soft. ... During his speech Hitchens said that he appreciated the fact that Texas governor Rick Perry had been open about his faith and his desire to inject fundamentalism into public life, reported the Houston Chronicle...."[W]e do need to stick up for ourselves, especially in a place like Texas, where they have laws, I think, that if you don't believe in Jesus Christ you can't run for sheriff.'
After being asked by an eight-year-old girl what books she should read, he recommended Dawkins' Magic of Reality, Greek and Roman myths, anything satirical by Shakespeare, Geoffrey Chaucer, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, PG Wodehouse, David Hume, and Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities.

So Hitch has an advocate in One High Place who is beseeching the One and Only Lover of Mankind for the One Thing Necessary.
Hitch, my friend, you like irony, don't you? Go for it. One enormous change at the last minute, and a fine giddy irony you can relish for eternity.

Sadly for Mr. Hitchens he will soon see that his lifelong denial of God will result in an eternal denial by God.

I find it ironic that people like Hitchens call themselves “Freethinkers.”
they are quite the opposite. Unlike agnostics or people who simply say “I don’t know,” atheists insist there is no greater power of any kind, nor is there absolutely anything which connects all human spirits - indeed, they deny the human soul even exists.
its a very arrogant, backward, absolutist position - quite the opposite of “free thinking.”
And his brother is praying for him, too. There is always hope, up to the last minute.
Although I disagree with almost everything he says, thinks or writes, he's a guy I wouldn't mind spending time with at the pub. He's always acerbic, entertaining and just as sure of his beliefs as I am of mine.

I always feel really bad for the lost. I pray that he finds redemption before his last breath. I don’t wish anything else for anyone, not really. I don’t understand such public statements in the face of death, but I suppose he has his reasons. God bless you, Mr. Hitchens. My prayers also for his family.

Yup, there are two kinds of people, those who say to God “thy will be done” and those to whom God says “thy will be done.” Hitchens will get what he wants, we all do in the end.
Hume was an irrational skeptic. He concluded that neither the senses nor reason can yield reliable knowledge. He also concluded that man is a helpless creature caught in an unintelligible universe.

I'd rather drink in the basement with my cats, thanks. I don't like being around angry, desperate people who project the filth in their own souls onto everyone around them.
What Hitchens said about Mother Teresa puts him beyond the pale of decent people, if they are aware of it, just as (to name another homosexual unfortunate) Elton John's promotion of debauching little boys should make him a pariah to all but his own kind.
I do not wish an untimely death to any man and that includes the strident atheist, Christopher Hitchens. However, when Hitchen’s life is over, he will finally know the truth and will receive what he has earned. God knows exactly what that is but scripture leaves no doubt. We can only pray that Hitchens obeys the Gospel, repents and accepts salvation while he still can, but I am not optimistic. What an unnecessary loss of a soul who could have eternal life in heaven but instead, values hedonism and the approval of mortal men more than the approval of God and His rewards, which are eternal and incorruptible.
But then you wouldn’t have a chance to challenge his often-warped point of view. (Or punch him, if it comes to that!)
Hitch doesn’t need any prayers, he’s going to have the “Richard Dawkins Freethinkers Award” to impress the Lord when he stands in judgement.
Hey Hitch, have you ever known a love that would cause a man to lay down his life for a friend... Jesus was that kind of man and more... Jesus laid down his life for his friends and those that hate him. Its up to you; will you be one who Jesus calls his friend? Death is final, no reneging once all truth is eternally revealed.
I drank with him. He’s cool. Not at all what you expect although he did dis my prayer at the event.
