I wonder if we can make a FOIA request for the algorithms and input/weighting factors used? I would love to know how this works. I’d be willing to bet a couple months pay that firearms ownership, being straight, non-minority, employed, and anything but a registered democrat weighs against you and makes you a suspect...of their brave new socialist paradise...

This article is a bit misleading.

FAST is a technology demonstrator for a screening system for large public events or secure areas. The Future portion of FAST stands for the inclusion of evolving technologies, not predicting future crimes. DHS paid for the development of a mobile trailer that can be easily modified to include different types of screening equipment. For people concerned about the health and privacy concerns of backscatter X-ray machines this should be a good thing.

This technology could still only be used for events that require submitting one self for security screening. Putting it on the street and forcing the public to walk through it would still be a Fourth Amendment violation.

City of Chicago high schools for decades had successful rifle teams. These kids practiced on .22s and later on .17s which they handled regularly. Someone hit Daley with this after researching the fact that in the decades of the program, no student ever used a gun in a crime.

An angry and embarrassed Daley canceled the program. It's not about safety, but control. Same thing with this program.
