‘Bird-Brained’ Hypocrisy: Oil Companies Prosecuted for 28 Dead Waterfowl While Wind Companies
theblaze.com ^ | September 30, 2011 | Dave Urbanski

You may have gotten wind of the seven North Dakota oil companies recently charged in federal court with the deaths of 28 migratory birds.

The birds allegedly landed in oil waste pits in western North Dakota last spring; the maximum penalty for each charge under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is six months in prison and a $15,000 fine, the AP said.

But did you know that wind-power companies are responsible for more than 400,000 bird deaths annually, and not one has faced a single charge?

The Wall Street Journal knows it, opining yesterday that the prosecutions are “bird-brained,” especially when wind-power outfits routinely beat the rap:

The lunacy continues. I don't know exactly how many birds wind turbines kill but prosecuting an oil company for 28 birds seems absurd compared to birds struck down by wind energy. As Orwell said "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal......."

The article you posted says 400,000 birds killed annually by the windmills. Compared to these 28 birds, I’d say the windmill industry is a bird-killing holocaust.

Death is to be expected in service to the “Green Agenda”. Only the watermelons are imune.

The eco-fascists love this kind of pandering to them
Of course Obama will direct his stooges to prosecute oil companies for this. Obama is desperate to stir up his greenie base and get them to the polls in November 2012

Short sighted stupidity. There was enough evidence to anticipate the bird slaughter - but there was too much greed at risk by the crony con-artists and ignorance on the part of the anti-oil greenies.

I’m wondering what effect this is having in the back rooms of the Animal Rights advocates. Have they made any public protests?

Electrical distribution systems now must install $1500 ‘Raptor Shields’ so large birds don’t fry themselves by touching 2 conductors on the wires. Go figure.

They can argue the numbers and obviously it is only an estimate. However, I think it is a fact that more than 28 condors and eagles have been killed by one turbine farm in California alone.

It will be interesting to see if the oil company defends itself in court using this argument.

Dump the food stamp program to save money, and feed the shredded poultry downstream to the starving victims of the Baraqqi Depression!

I just mentioned in another thread the Regime is going to go all-out to stop the development of the ND oilfields...just as soon as maximum $$$ is spent on the development phase, but before any $$$ can be made on production. This story is about birds, the other is about EPA complaints going against the developers.

This is but another arrow in the Obama quiver to destroy ND’s oil industry.

I’ve been doing my dove hunting all wrong..400,000? I need to get me some turbines!

Can’t the oil companies sue the gub’mint for unfair prosecution or something like that?

It would be interesting if the oil company brought an “equal protection” lawsuit against the administration for not having an even-handed stance with the wind-power people.

Selective prosecution. If the crime is dead birds you can't single out a minor offender and turn a blind eye to major ones.

I hope the oil company does use an equality defense against this action. However, due to litigation costs and fear of additional government actions and reprisals they will probably pay a huge fine and that will be the end of it.

The government has deep pockets and more attorneys. The hypocrisy of this will go unnoticed by 95% of our citizens and the beat will go on.

I thought these articles and the underlying facts of this action were a perfect illustration of one of the major cancers our nation faces. Orwell was correct.

I was not able to find any verification of that statement, but I did find this:

If those windmills were killing polar bears THEN they’d be in trouble!!

Actually, they probably wouldn’t. The libs would come up with some ‘thinning the herd’ or ‘survival of the fittest’ argument. Of course it wouldn’t apply to ‘warming.’
