Obama's Latest Target: Unemployed Americans
Townhall.com ^ | October 1, 2011 | Jack Bouroudjian

Last month, my fellow Chicagoan sent to Congress his latest misguided plan to bolster the U.S. economy. In his speech announcing the American Jobs Act, the president declared, without equivocation, that the bill was all or nothing.  “No games. No politics. No delays," he said, adding that he would veto any changes made by Republican lawmakers.

In his effort to perpetuate the myth that government creates jobs, Obama performed some deft slight-of-hand. For instance, he failed to mention the fact that his $450 billion jobs bill will be funded by the largest tax increase in history, coming to a W-2 near you in 2013. He also breezed over the parts of a Buy American provision that are more likely to disrupt manufacturers’ supply chains and anger trading partners than protect jobs.

Just when I thought the reckless resurgence of Taxulationism couldn’t get any worse, I learned of yet another reason that, when it comes to the jobs bill, Congress should opt for nothing instead of all. It turns out that Obama’s American Jobs act contains another hidden provision, one that would allow unsuccessful job applicants to sue if they think a company denied them a job because they were unemployed.

You read that correctly. If you’re unemployed, go apply for a job. If you don’t get it, sue.

If that’s his idea of a carrot, I don’t want to see the stick.

There are 14 million people officially out of work in this country. Six million Americans are considered long-term unemployed. The average duration of joblessness is now 40 weeks, the highest in more than 60 years. These are our friends, our family members, our neighbors—the overwhelming majority of whom are capable and talented people.

And as a small businessman, I can’t interview a single one of them. The President of the United States has threatened me with litigation if I decide they’re not a good fit.

I own a few small companies, all of which have been getting by on skeleton crews for a while now. I’m not alone: layoff rates have dropped nationally, largely because there simply aren’t many more places we can make cuts. I absolutely want to hire—and I’m sure other business owners do too. But the socialist policy coming out of the Oval Office has made it impractical and borderline impossible.

Just for argument’s sake, though, let’s say that I did find a way to bring on one or two new people. I made it through the spider web of Dodd-Frank and digested the uncertainty of Obamacare and am ready to add some staff. Now I have to worry about being sued by any unsuccessful candidates for those positions?

At a time when America needs jobs more than anything else, that is nothing short of absurd. In fact, it’s almost perverse.

Once again, my fellow Chicagoan has shown that when it comes to job creation, he doesn’t have a clue. And once again, he’s got his henchmen out on the front lines, doing his bidding. In this case, the gang of thugs is the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The EEOC is an independent federal agency that enforces laws against workplace discrimination. It’s comprised of five members. Three are Obama appointees. The fourth, Stuart Ishimaru, was appointed by George W. Bush as part of a deal to appease Harry Reid and Tom Daschle and was later reappointed by Obama. The fifth and only true Bush appointee is Constance Barker. Her term ended July 1 of this year.

Sound familiar? That’s because it the NLRB story all over again. But this time, instead of going after a factory in South Carolina, Obama’s henchmen are attacking every small business across the nation—and, in turn, the nearly one in 10 Americans who are desperate to find work.

Later in his American Jobs Act speech, Obama held his nose and did his best to put a supply-side patina on what, just beneath the surface, was more of the same anti-business, anti-capitalist agenda he’s been pushing for the last two-and-a-half years.  "Instead of just talking about America's job creators, let's actually do something for America's job creators," he said.

I’ve got a suggestion for my fellow Chicagoan: How about you start by calling off your henchmen? All of them—the EEOC, the NLRB, the EPA. That might actually do something for America’s job creators.

It’s all about “fundamentally transforming America,” recreating our country in HIS image, and he and his thugs know what is best for us, and we must TRUST Him.

Left wing freaks: Your president hates our country and all we stand for.

FUBO and your moron worshippers.

This is deliberate. The Regime is seeking to expand the underclass dependant on government welfare. And this latest move, to make anyone out of work due to the economy tanking radioactive to the hiring process is all part of the scheme.

Section 376 of the Bill makes states subject to the federal government. If this passes, it will destroy America and you can put the Constitution in a vault.

Yep, 0bama The Great Divider is at it again. Give special rights to the unemployed and now we can have a rights battle between the employed and unemployed. Yet another bogus 0bama scheme to turn “have nots” into “haves” by fiat. Oh, naturally the flip side of that is to turn the “haves” into the “have nots”. That’s what class warfare is all about, right? Some pigs are more equal than other pigs. (BTW, if you youngsters haven’t read Orwell’s Animal Farm, you need to. If you oldersts haven’t read it in the last decade, you need to re-read it.)

Raise your hand if you think that, in response to employers not hiring to avoid lawsuits from people they turn down, dear leader will add a provision requiring them to hire, creating yet another “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation.

*raises both hands*

Something to add to the jobs equation though its early even by Alaska standards many seasonal employees are about to be laid off.

It happens every years, I for one am eagerly waiting for the day when I will stop working.

My job is construction, its seasonal, it requires long hours from April till October, and in between I do not work but draw off my unemployment insurance, I will not seek any work, I don’t want any work and I refuse any offers to work, I am tired, I ache, I want to sleep, rest, pig out and watch TV for 4 months.

I DO NOT want to be forced into working like a socialist, working year round, doing demeaning mind numbing repetitious work with low pay and also having most of my paycheck garnished for healthcare.

So I am about to be laid off and I am looking forward to it!

I know how it feels to be out of work, but I would rather be free and able to choose an occupation that I would enjoy than to be a useless participant of a meager demeaning job for drones.

Bad enough that I'm unemployed, but to find out I'm only average at it, well that really hurts.

I'm at 39 weeks, and I'm fairly sure I'll make 40.

:)

If you'd said that about anyone 20 years ago, I'd have called you nuts and paranoid. Even 10 years ago, I'd have said you are seriously torquing up other people's motives and looking for the worst. But now ..... considering the very Red background of the First Agitator ...... you may very well have a point.

You and Fred Hayek could have a conversation about whether Barky wants to turn "haves" into "have nots" or lock the "have nots" into permanent "have not"/Rat Party clientele, i.e. making downward mobility ("reproletarization") permanent.

Which, of course, would be the American Dream in photonegative.
