State Gets $5 Mil Bonus For Food Stamp Sign Up

In its quest to promote taxpayer-funded entitlement programs, the Obama Administration has actually rewarded one state with a $5 million bonus for its efficiency in adding food-stamp recipients to already bulging rolls.
It’s part of the administration’s campaign to eradicate “food insecure households” by improving access and increasing participation in the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Incidentally, the program was recently changed to SNAP to eliminate the stigma that comes with a name like food stamps.
Just a few months ago the federal agency that administers the program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), launched a multi-million-dollar initiative to recruit more food-stamp participants even though the number of recipients has skyrocketed in the last few years.

This week Oregon officials bragged that the USDA has given the state $5 million in “performance bonuses” for ensuring that people eligible for food benefits receive them and for its “swift processing of applications.” The money comes on the heels of a separate $1.5 million award from the feds for making “accurate payments of food stamp benefits to clients.” So welfare recipients are clients?
It marks the fifth consecutive year that Oregon has been “recognized” by the federal government for “exceptional administration” of the entitlement program, according to the announcement posted on the state’s Department of Human Services web site. The state official who runs SNAP assures that her staff will “continue working very hard to exceed expectations” so that Oregonians can “put healthy foods on their table quickly.”
Could this be why the number of food-stamp beneficiaries in Oregon has increased dramatically in the last few years? Since 2008 the state has seen a 60% boost in the number of food-stamp recipients, which means that more than 780,000 people (one out of five Oregonians) get groceries compliments of Uncle Sam.
As if this weren’t bad enough, the feds are also giving the state a two-year grant to test an “innovative approach” to the food-stamp “client eligibility review process.” This will make it even easier for people to get food stamps because it grants state officials a waiver that allows them to grant the benefit without interviewing the candidate.

I would love to get food stamps. Unfortunately, I worked for a living all my life.
Now that I’m retired and on a fixed income, I would love to get free stuff. However, because I own my own home (well, the bank and I), I’m not eligible.
However, had I spent my life on the dole, I would be eligible and could be sitting in front of my large screen TV enjoying all the comforts of government supported largess.
I had to look three times to see if this was satire.
No better way to insure Democrat votes. The recipients of this taxpayer largess can now be counted on to deliver their votes to the proper candidates. It about nothing more than this.
And he is going to be the best dammed Food Stamp President there ever was! I’m sure he is going to make that dammed honky FDR look like a real piker when it comes to giving stuff away for votes.
You should see it here in New York city, the foodstamp line goes on for two blocks... 34-00 Northern blvd. in Astoria if anyone is interested who lives around there. It looks like something out of the USSR. The only difference is about 50% are illegals with fake SS cards they have made on Roosevelt ave. They get the foodstamps which is an EBT credit card and a metrocard the same day. The city doesn’t even bother to validate the SS#, they just take the application and hand out the cards like free coupons, and later if they do validate it and cancel the account, it doesn’t matter because Juan just goes and gets another fake SS#. I’m going to take pictures of this sht and post them here. And if you can believe it, the local news did an expose on this a few years back and STILL it goes on!
We have second, third, and maybe 4th generation families on food stamps. These people have no idea what food really costs. They think gummit owes them a living from the cradle to the grave, and probably expect that the gummit will also pay for their burial.

By all sensible (and sane) criteria, you should be eligible.
That would also mean that the 20% of Oregonians who get food stamps don’t also have a mortgage.

Because of these new “innovative approaches”, people in prison are getting unemployment checks. That’s not bull****, that’s the truth.
Unfortunately, I live in my own home ... therefore I don’t qualify (in Ohio). Silly me, I decided to own my own home. American dream gone awry.
