Witness of Kosovar war crimes found dead in Germany

A key witness in a war crimes case against a senior Kosovo figure has been found dead in Germany, the EU rule of law mission in Kosovo (EULEX) said Wednesday.

"EULEX confirms that Agim Zogaj, known as witness X in the Klecka case, was found dead in a park in Germany," the mission's statement said.

It added that the "German authorities are conducting the necessary investigation to determine the circumstances of his death."

According to local media reports, Zogaj had agreed to testify in the case of Fatmir Limaj, one of the most prominent commanders of the ethnic Albanian guerrillas of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The separatist KLA fought the forces of the then Serbian strongman Slobodan Milosevic during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo.

Zogaj, as a former KLA member, was reportedly under Limaj's direct command in the Klecka improvised detention centre where war crimes against non-Albanians were allegedly committed.

In September, Limaj was charged with nine other suspects for war crimes committed against civilians and prisoners of war in June 1999.

Last week, he was placed under a month-long house arrest pending the start of his trial.

Limaj is now a lawmaker and deputy president of prime minister Hashim Thaci's ruling Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). He served as transport minister in Thaci's previous government.

Zogaj's identity was kept secret while he was alive as the main trial was expected to begin next month.

Local media have speculated that Zogaj was placed under a special witness programme and relocated out of Kosovo.

Limaj was tried for war crimes at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. He was acquitted in 2007.

The war ended after a NATO air campaign ousted Milosevic's forces from Kosovo, paving the way for establishment of a UN protectorate over the territory.

Kososvo, which has a majority ethnic Albanian population, unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

"He committed suicide. There are no indications for a different explanation," police spokesman Stefan Bauer said. But he also said an autopsy will be carried out Thursday.

Remember that sensitive minds are so easily affected by those somber dark woodland parks in Germany. We haven't forgotten the case...sorry... suicide of "controversial" judge (juvenile magistrate) Kirsten Heisig who was found hanged in a wooded area north of Berlin in July last year.

Obviously she was so distraught by the fact that she had been criticized by "some" ethnic minorities for her tactics and for her view that "some" foreign cultures neglect education and encourage juvenile delinquency that she found no way out except to commit suicide. (Though, even the august Neue Zurcher Zeitung - hardly a scandal sheet - found the police investigation less than convincing.)

As a tax payer my dollars in some small way contributed to funding Allied Farce. That makes me complicit in some small way to the hundreds of Serb civilians killed by the air campaign. I am certain the Serbs were unpleasant to the Albanians. I wasn't in any way complicit in those actions. Thanks to the various assorted glory hunters, ambitious careerists, and those who were directly or indirectly being paid off by the Albanian and other Muzxies everyone in the US who paid taxes got besmirched by that adventure. There are occasions, more frequent than the globalists and their willing allies within the armed forces and the security establishment like to admit, when there is no US interest significant enough to justify intervention let alone armed intervention. Depressingly far to many Americans believe we possess the mandate of heaven which ennobles of our actions and cats all conflicts we get into as a collision between the forces of godly virtue opposed to the monsters of hell. This sort of cartoonish sanctimoniousness has been the default mode of the thinking of many Americans for a long time. Unfortunately the US has its share of tawdry, squalid or just plain stupid chapters in its foreign and military history. Striking self righteous poses makes it no less so. If you had a role as a staff officer back in NATO land it doesn’t mean your service advanced the forces of progress. It is difficult to admit that one silently assented to aiding in the most wretched American military operation since the Philippine Insurrection. Perhaps you do believe any action US armed forces are engaged in are automatically immaculately virtuous simply because the US executes them. That s the most depressing thought of all.
