SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Some workers at a Sioux City mail processing center could be paid even if they don't work after the facility closes.

The U.S. Postal Service is closing the center on Friday and transferring the work to Sioux Falls, S.D.

Spokesman Richard Watkins said that about 100 workers have taken other mail jobs and 40 others are on standby status. Those standby workers will have to take other postal service jobs before their contract expires in 2015. In the meantime, Watkins said, they could be asked to report to the Sioux City post office and sit in a room until called upon to fill in where needed.

Under the contract, those 40 union workers would get $1.72 million plus benefits for doing little or no work.

Wobbly Bob.........Guess you nailed that one.

Is there any question that the USPS needs a major overhaul (Unions once again).......

Guess that’s notmuch different that getting laid off and still collecting years of un-employment money while you work for cash somewhere else.....just sayin..

Every able-bodied person receiving some form of public aid should be required to do some kind of work. It makes no sense that there is a lack of funding for public services while we are paying others to do nothing.

I would be willing to pay Congress to do NOTHING. And Obama, too, for that matter..........

My mom had a picture of the kids in her high school class. All the kids were wearing worn and patched clothes except for two who had new clothes. Their parents ran the local post office.

I think perhaps it was Walter Williams who once proposed giving each congress person one million dollars the first day of each new session--then watch how long it takes them to get out of town.

When I hear people complaining about all the vacations congress takes, I cringe. I want them to take even more.

You just knew this would happen. If there was a really stupid way to fix the post office, it would be found and utilized. Can’t fire any postal employees....they vote Democrat. So, let’s lower the level of service! Pretty soon, we’ll have 650,000 Democrat postal employees receiving full pay while they deliver the mail once every two weeks.
