I suppose the one justifiable question all ask, at one time or another, is why? Why wait soooooo long? This leads to the tipping point question of when is too late? What are the advantages to an extraordinary delay? There have to be an equal number of disadvantages when the point arrives, and it has, that supporters begin to drop off and move on, as the only announcements are those of another non-announcement. It is not a smear to Palin to ask these questions. Certainly everyone is asking, even those who say they aren’t. They are. And it is beginning to show that even the stalwarts are asking, beginning to wonder by now, whether they voice it publically or not. No sign, still, even in sight that she will contend. There is no movement, no endorsements, no activity, just deafening silence. It is no crime or wonder why others chose to move on, forget the drama surrounding the guessing, the blatant manufacturing of time tables, winks, nods, genius strategy, psycho jujitsu, etc. It has become a concern, then a yawn, and now laughable. That last one is hard to overcome. Sarah has become a caracature of herself and painfully buffoonery is not now too far off. If she rang the bell tomorrow it would be a circus but the story would be on the internal fight of her supporters and the rest of the party, but it wouldn’t be about her. That’s not good either. Just sayin’.

To give time for Perry and Mitt to beat each other up.

She knew this #($&% book was coming out...maybe she decided to let the dust settle first. Seems to me he didn’t get much - gossip mostly from people who don’t want their names used. The definition of journalist ain’t what it used to be.

Honestly I can’t understand how anyone can be expected to take this public beating - the stress on the family has got to be horrible. I’ve been through a a similar situation but on a more local level and some days you just don’t want to wake up - other days you want to fight the bastards so they don’t get away with it. If she chose not to run and have a nice rest of her life I’d understand completely.

But I hope she runs - if so she’ll have my vote.

One possible reason is $$$. The speculation and drama generates a lot of it. Another is the possibility that she craves the attention of the spotlight.

Thoughtful comments on your part but I disagree that there is total silence from Palin. She gave two speeches over Labor Day weekend in both Iowa and New Hampshire and those were political speeches that you would only expect a candidate to give. She posts articles on a regular basis on subjects that you would expect a candidate to expound on. There are PACs raising money on her behalf and some semblance of a ground operation being put together.

Why so long? Well I just got done posting here that at this point in the election cycle, neither Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan or Richard Nixon (1968) has announced. And all three did get elected (and then re-elected).

My guess on the wait would probably be that Palin already has the name recognition, has a couple books out, so immediately upon entry, she'd be an instant contender so why the rush? Also, she might be waiting for the current field to settle out a little and maybe she was hoping more would have dropped out of the race by now besides just Pawlenty.
