"...whether a young man who decides not to buy health insurance should be refused care if he develops a life-threatening illness and be left to die."

If he doesn't get a fat income directly or indirectly from government debt, like those bipartisan political folks who cheered, let him croak. That's the way of socialism shortly before it's corrected with a technocracy. Most currently politically active people are trying to shift more debt/inflation-generated government revenues from others to themselves.

Politics.

I heard this repeated on Imus this morning. I don't know who Imus was speaking to but he reported on these "yahoos" in a hushed voice expressing shock and disbelief. Imus did his usual "ya, ya, ya."

Not buying it. I say they were plants. Perry's right. We're the party of life. We don't let innocents die. That's the other party.

"But the Republican party ought to be about life and protecting, particularly, innocent life," he added.

Sorry mac, a man who is a hedonist, and thinks only of himself until he gets a terminal illness, is NOT an innocent life.

Goes double for perverts.

So it would be I think the wrong message to say somehow or another that you can't go to our colleges, or we've going to punish you because of the sound of your last name."

Playing the race card, albeit obliquely, is so lame.
I don't care what his last name sounds like, he is not entitled to the benefits of citizenship.

If he/she/it has caught the "American Spirit," he can dispense with the aztlan BS, diligently work to become a regularized immigrant, and then claim the rewards of citizenship.

Perry can run for office in Mexico,
No chance in hell that I would ever vote for him.

Public announcement : I will vote for a third party candidate or write-in candidate over Perry in a second. If that allows the great Bulls****er to win reelelection, I did not force it. Business-as-usual Republicans did.

The question is premised on the notion that GOVERNMENT has to take care of the guy if he has no health insurance. Hospitals WILL treat those without insurance. Many many hospitals will also forego almost all expenses if the person in need has low income in addition to no insurance. Charities could be setup to help those in need. Churches and other organizations can pick up the slack.

The Hippocratic oath and medical, not to mention cultural, tradition going back thousands of years are perfectly clear. No one should be refused treatment because of money. A doctor, and by extension a hospital, must care for patients as if they where his own children. Find out how to pay for it afterwards. Hospitals have never been for-profit businesses until relatively recently. Blame who you will, but this isn't right.

Having said that, I think being able to pay for your own treatment, be it through insurance or some other way, is a civic duty. It's a part of being an adult and paying your own way through life. The modern idea that someone else will always pay is ruining medicine and all other aspects of our society, except for the growth of government, of course.

Sometimes I think that all the ills of our modern society come from the fact that people just don't grow up anymore.

The republicans are supposed to be the party of freedom Mr Perry. The young man is free to choose to spend his money on toys instead of health insurance. He is not free to rob his neighbor to pay for his medical problems after the fact.
