WASHINGTON (AP) — In a sharp challenge to the GOP, President Barack Obama proposed paying for his costly new jobs plan Monday with tax hikes that Republicans have already rejected, and he accused them of political motives if they still refuse to go along.
"The only thing that's stopping it is politics," Obama declared.
The president's proposal drew criticism from House Speaker John Boehner, who'd previously responded in cautious but somewhat receptive tones to the $447 billion jobs plan made up of tax cuts and new spending that Obama first proposed in an address to Congress last Thursday.
"It would be fair to say this tax increase on job creators is the kind of proposal both parties have opposed in the past. We remain eager to work together on ways to support job growth, but this proposal doesn't appear to have been offered in that bipartisan spirit," Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said.
The biggest piece of the payment plan would raise about $400 billion by eliminating certain deductions, including on charitable contributions, that can be claimed by wealthy taxpayers. Obama has proposed that in the past — to help pay for his health care overhaul, for example — and it's been shot down by Republican lawmakers along with some Democrats.

The only rational conclusion one can draw at this point is that Obama simply enjoys beating his head against the wall.

Right. Let’s do something for job creators, by raising their taxes. House GOP should consider holding hearings on this legislation to expose this stupidity. Force obama’s economic experts to defend the stimulus all over again. Force them to explain how higher taxes and more regulations creates the environment for job growth. Ask them to explain how deficit spending leads to real economic growth over time. What about funding green jobs through companies like Solyndra. And finally, confront the so called experts on the real political motives; class warfare.
With the bar for the “super rich” lowered to $200,000, Obama’s new taxes would squarely hit small businesses where the owners file their business income on their personal income tax form. Obama fails to understand that this is totally unlike having a $200,000 salary. The $200,000 could also hit some middle class taxpayers as with fat union negotiated salaries even two teachers could have a taxable income of $200,000 +.

He knows the Republican Congress isn’t going to raise taxes on the rich or anyone else for that matter.
He’ll simply use their refusal to go along with his redistributionist policies as Republican indifference to the poor.
First step cherry pick any good things, wrap them up in a bill and pass them paid for or not. For the other stuff lets cut some of their pork too such as NPR, Green Investment Obamacare.
The Republicans need to tell barry to shelve the triangulated jive bill and come back with a scorable budget proposal. A fiscally responsible budget is the best “jobs bill” there is.
How is that going to stimulate jobs, or keep social security solvent?
Looks like just another pay off to his core constituency.
