South Sudan: UN deploys peacekeepers to deter violence
Afrique en ligne 27/08/2011

New York, US - The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Friday said it had started sending troops and civilian experts to Jonglei state to help deter violence and foster reconciliation in the wake of recent ethnic clashes that have left at least 600 people dead. PANA recalls that the fighting that began over a week ago between the Murle and Lou Nuer communities has also reportedly left 1,000 people wounded and led to the theft of tens of thousands of cattle.
