With more properties on the tax roll, the continued increase in sales tax revenue and a slight increase in appraised property values this year , Pflugerville officials are proposing to lower the tax rate.
The city property tax bill for an average-value home of $159,329 would go down about $8 to $954.38 , under a 2011-12 tax rate that city staff proposed, according to a city spokeswoman.
Pflugerville's growth, more shoppers, a new movie theater , gym and small stores have led to an increase in sales tax revenue, City Manager Brandon Wade said.
The city is expecting to collect more than $3.8 million in sales tax revenue next year , 10 percent more than this year's projected amount , city spokeswoman Terri Waggoner said.
The proposed tax rate for the 2011-12 budget year is 59.9 cents per $100 in assessed valuation, a half-cent decrease. It would be the eighth consecutive year that the Pflugerville tax rate would decline.

The city is not proposing a reduction in services. The proposed $62.5 million budget includes raises for 40 officers to make their salaries more competitive, as well as 3 percent merit increases for employees, according to Waggoner.
Under the proposed budget, vacant positions have been eliminated and new positions created: a new assistant city manager, patrol officer, detective, public works laborer, coordinator to manage storm water runoff, planner and part-time mechanic.
Waggoner said the proposal also includes $20.7 million for day-to-day operations, not including utilities; $22 million for utilities; as well as a first-time reserve fund to be used for one-time expenses. The fund amount will be determined by December based on sales tax revenue.

Lower rates means higher revenues.

LOL, when I lived in the ‘weird place’ Pflugerville was barely a bump in the road. My how times have changed.
