Pair Arrested For ‘Lack Of Common Sense’ After Rafting Down Main Street In Manayunk

Row, row, row your boat, just not down Main Street in Manayunk. That’s the message police are sending after arresting two men who used a raft as an alternate means of transportation down the flooded street Sunday.

CBS 3 reporter Dray Clark caught up with Pete and Pat, best friends and roommates from Manayunk, who paddled their way down the water covered street.

“I thought, Main Street floods a lot, go get a raft and float down,” said Pat, who admitted the idea was his.

“We thought it would be a good time and it turns out it is,” said Pete.

Minutes later, Philadelphia police stopped the men and hauled them away in handcuffs.

When Dray asked why the men were being arrested, he said the officers replied, “for lack of common sense.”

No charges were filed against the boaters.

Where do you even start on this one. Sounds like both sides have no common sense. Only one side committed kidnapping.

If only there was such a law, think how small our governments would be........(sigh)

Certainly, the police had no business picking these idiots up. That being said, idiots like these and some of the hurricane challengers have no business expecting to be “rescued” when they do stupid things and I really don’t think manpower and resources should be used in doing the rescues. Actions have consequences.

Neither one had a life jacket on so they were a danger to themselves and any rescuers. If they had a life jacket I really would not care. I am sure they could have been arrested and fined for that

Does Philly have something like Arizona's Stupid Motorist Law? You don't get arrested, but you do pay very large fines (thousands of $$), if you drive into a flooded area, get stuck and have to be rescued.

Did Pete and Pat get their raft back, or did the police keep it? I’m guessing that the police will keep it so they can paddle down main street and have some fun. lol

Pair Arrested For ‘Lack Of Common Sense’

If this is the new standard, when do they slap the cuffs on the entire staff of Present-ident 0's administration?

Do not know if they have a law like that but in this case the guys did not need to be rescued.

These guys did not do anything that required rescuing. I would hope that you think the police should answer for thier illegal actions. As you say actions have consequences.

If that’s adequate grounds for arrest... who wants to come down to the Capitol with me? Bring 545 pairs of handcuffs.

I absolutely agree. However, if they had gotten into trouble, I think they should have been left to drown. Of course, the family members would be suing over that as well.

Yeah, big friggin deal, no life jackets, throw caution to the wind, no common sense, but its young men like these that this country has asked since the beginning to go out and fight for this country. maybe its dumb, but maybe we need more of that kind of spirit.

I guess this would be a way to reduce the deficit, on government workers to payments.

Well I do not think we should stop with 545, there are a whole lot more than that that should be included. Staff members, White House residents, USSC among others.
