In hurricane Irene bull's eye, coastal North Carolina braces
By Patrik Jonsson | Christian Science Monitor – 15 hrs ago

**SNIP**

North Carolina declared a state of emergency Thursday, opening access to federal assets to help government agencies respond to the disaster.

To help with a potentially disastrous aftermath, the government has stationed mountains of supplies, including water and generators, at Fort Bragg, one of the country's largest military installations. In North Carolina, an emergency declaration also means concealed weapons carry permits are invalid for the duration – another grim reminder of the potential of a storm to cause civil unrest.

Never heard of that before. If there's ever a good case to HAVE a CCW permit...

still think this is a free country?

If you wanted proof that we were all snookered when they started “allowing” us to have CCW permits, this is it.

Constitutional carry or nothing!

>> CCW permits invalid for duration of the emergency.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Civil unrest? Who said there would be civil unrest?

I don’t discount the damage that could be done by this storm, but with one huge exception, most people pull together in times like these.

LOL!
I doubt there is 1 person in 1,000 who now carries and who will stop carrying because “the authorities” have repealed their right to carry.
Funny stuff.

And you’re first instinct was right on - - it is exactly with the possibility of “civil unrest” in mind that many people carry in the first place. The state’s ludicrous declaration that CCWs are “invalid” is ludicrous. People would have to be fools to pay any attention to this nonsense.

Louisiana, Hurricane Katrina ring a bell?

Some idiots tried that after Rita in Houston and Galveston, but unlike NOPD, HPD and GPD stayed on the job and busted them in no time flat. IIRC, the looter season was sadly short last time.

Yes, that is when everyone needs to be carrying!

Governments love disasters as excuses to gain power!

Hmmm, I think I said with one notable exception, didn’t I?

I have friends and family on the HPD. I know how it was handled. I was very proud of them.

What does that have to do with suspending concealed carry in North Carolina for something that “might” happen?

IIRC, concealed carry was not suspended in Texas. (Not that it would have made one bit of difference.);)

There was looting after Katrina. In Japan they pull together... who knows what people will try to pull off in a disaster zone here...I’d like to think that we’ll be better than that...but I can’t blame people for wanting to carry concealed.

Well, I don’t know, Wardaddy.

There have been disasters in many areas. Most of the time, people pull together. That sure isn’t publicized.

I just think suspending concealed carry because something might happen is coo-coo.

I see no need to hide a weapon in this type situation. Eliminate any problems with b*llsh*t ruling and open carry it. Simply wear it so everyone can see you have a gun and are armed and protect yourself. Eliminate the problem before anything happens since most or all criminals will not try to rob or harm and armed person. Carry your gun so it is visible. While i agree the government has no right to void the CCW permits, they also have no right to require one either!

I think the NC law is wrong, but I was pointing out why they might be thinking there would be civil unrest.

I’d also point out that counting on everyone pulling together isn’t a great idea unless you have a backup.

I get a little annoyed that people (not you in particular) keep comparing the disaster in Japan to the US. Actually there was looting. Katrina put a huge stain on the US. I blame the media.

There are many disasters in this country that are not publicized. The flooding in the Midwest...no publicity. The fires in the Southwest..no publicity. There was no story, because the populace took care of business and pulled together.

Even during Katrina, Mississippi handled their own. No publicity.

I will now return my soapbox to my closet. :)

I keep seeing this whole thing way overblown. There will be damage, but nothing like the idiots standing in the rain are telling us. Just another slow news month when the MSM is trying to avoid talking about the stellar vacation the Regime just had. Swell.

The state’s ludicrous declaration that CCWs are “invalid” is ludicrous. People would have to be fools to pay any attention to this nonsense.

But it does indicate what "the state" intends to do in a case of actual civil unrest...

Just a thought.
