Certainly families that dependent on this aid ought to get it in a timely manner, just like people who toil for their pay need to get paid on time. But they also should be prioritizing their expenditure. It is unacceptable for people who depend on the government for food and healthcare to have cable TV or expensive phones and cars.
Years ago we used to live in the DC area and I remember our visits to a discount grocery store. We used to shop frugally; and guess what, we’d see people in the checkout line with carts full of expensive prepared food, steaks etc. I’d marvel at how they could afford that, and then they’d pull out the food stamps which used to be like paper checks those days. I just couldn’t believe how our government could be so out of touch with the reality that some people are here to scam us taxpayers.
What a bunch of nasty, foul comments. Looks like the taxpayers are ready for a revolt of their own!
That way the people who are going hungry get food, the government saves money, and we all see who is feeding at the State teet!
The State is $20 Billion in the hole and they advertise for new recipients all the time.
I hear their ads on the Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin shows. I guess they don't understand the audience they are reaching. Of course they use Children in the ads and go on and on about eating healthy. What a joke.
What's genuine mean in this context? Does this mean that they'd have to cut back on some of their non-essential spending? Does this mean that they're upside down on their car note? Or does it mean that they'll absolutley starve to death if they stop receiving stolen goods welfare from the government. I'm pretty sure that it isn't the last possiility.
A few questions if you don't mind. Since you know these people, how many hours a week in total does their family work? Do they have dogs or cats? How old are their car(s). Do they ever eat out? I;m trying to establish a baseline to define EBT card qualification

To the tune of Jeannie C. Riley’s “Harper Valley PTA” The day they took the Clayton County food Stamps away.
Yep let them stand in line; they’re not working anyway!
I forget which of the Caesars said 'give the masses bread and circuses and they'll be happy'...
No bread, no circuses, and the SHTF.
The Safety Net has been turned into a Hammock.
And cars. America is the only country where "poor" people own cars.
I'll cut them some slack and consider them truly poor only if they live in the car.
You’re correct. And I actually think it is the church’s job to help the poor. Not the government’s.
I think it is enough for me, a solid conservative hand-up not out type of person, to say that these people actually need the assistance. In one case, the mother went to the foodstamp office when (after working 3 jobs) she made it out of her circumstances and informed them she no longer needed their help. She said they were amazed. They’d never had anyone honest enough to come do that before.
But as to what happened to cause the need or whether she had animals, I wouldn’t dream of dragging her reasons for the need out, whether I named names or not.
Daughter is a teacher, and says some free lunch parents wear more expensive clothes than she does.
What did people do in this nation before ‘food stamps’?
Did they just lay down and die from starvation in the streets?
While there may be some need to help a small portion of the people for finite periods, 48 million on food stamps is insane. Far too many have a nicer car than the average working stiff and have electronics that a lot of us won't waste our money on. There should be some checks going on before turning over our money to them - car newer than 6 years old/TV bigger than 30"/cable or anything other than an antenna/stereo that costs over $120/beer, soda, chips, cookies in the house, etc. - no aid.
If folks demonstrate they can afford the "niceties" they can afford to feed their families - it then becomes a choice.
I bet they all have cable TV, Internet and Cell phones, and the parents spend money on cigarettes
And beer. And the parents are most likely overweight.
Good. Maybe its time for the cities to burn.
Bypass the beer and tobacco isles and you'd be amazed at what you can afford.
