"I was quite sure that he wasn't going to run, because he was adamant until about four months ago that he wasn't going to run. I was surprised that he had changed his position on that, but I'm glad that he's going to be in there. I'm thankful that he's going to jump in this arena. It's rough and tumble and tough,...That adds to the debate. It adds another choice for Americans to consider headin' into 2012."

I'm going to say something that I realize is very trite. I acknowledge it. I accept it. I just can't help but think it as I read it.

Read this speech, but imagine Reagan is reading it to you.

Me too and I liked what I saw as well!!!! Finally someone telling it like it is and sticking up for our country and the people vs. belittling our country and the people. I actually stood up a cheered a couple of times as I've been so hungry for a speech like the one Gov Perry gave today. Such a sharp contrast to Obama.

I understand what you mean. It will be fascinating in the coming days to see just how many times that comparison is made. It’s the sort of thing that could propel Perry to the White House.

How the Perry campaign ultimately plays out remains to be seen, but this opening theme is a winning one, IMO.

I read the speech, I liked the speech. But at this point they are only words, I remember that Bush used to talk like that. He turned out to be most liberal president we’ve ever bad, outdone only by obumber. I’ve got some research to do before I will support him in the primary with my money and my vote. But I am an anybody but obumber voter. And this speech was excellent. Finally, someone that stands out!

And I’ll promise you this: I’ll work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your life as I can. And at the same time, we’ll be freeing our families and small businesses and states from the burdensome and costly federal government so those groups can create, innovate and succeed.

This is my desire for every day of my life -- to wake up in the morning, and then go to sleep at night, without having thought about Washington DC for one second.

And in these time when the government is interfering in every aspect of our lives, when they are trying to force us to buy their version of health insurance, dictating the cars we can drive, the light bulbs we can use, when they are groping us if we want to get on an airplane, trying to force us into unions, and running up a tab that will bankrupt our nation -- this is a message that should resonate with America. It is the message that should be the staple of every conservative candidate.

Get government off our backs.

Rick Perry is a phony.

I hope Tea Party members see through him. He is an Establishment Republican. He will try to steal votes from the Party, but he is will not take risks to advance our cause. The Tea Party movement will stall or die if Rick Perry gets the nomination.

Look at the posts in Free Republic. Rick Perry supporters come off as an ugly mob who attack Tea Party candidates with immature name calling.

We do not want to be a part of this.

THE TEA PARTY MUST REJECT RICK PERRY!

The problem is, I can’t imagine Reagan giving this. Not that it is a bad speech or I wouldn’t vote for the guy, but it is a bit airy. We will see.

I realize no candidate is perfect... but he has a great story, that a lot of Americans will identify with.
I really didn’t like him at first...for very shallow reasons. I think he’s almost too good-looking. There are of course issues where I diverge with him, then again I also love Christie and don’t agree with him on everything.
At this point we have to defeat the big O and Perry sounds like he’s up for the task.
I think I’m finally getting excited!

No it won't, you're selling it short. The TEA Party is stronger than any one candidate, whether it's Rick Perry or anyone else who winds up as the Republican nominee.

I agree, it’s a theme that should resonate throughout conservative ranks and guide every conservative campaign.

So does Texas.

Funny...Obama's campaign has been saying this exact thing. They don't like Perry.

Perry is an illegal-alien loving RINO establishment Republican. All his speech talks about is the things big business wants, which is what the establishment Republicans are: business Democrats.
