Why Sarah Palin Needs To Run For President In 2012
Riehl World View ^ | Saturday, August 13, 2011 | Riehl World View

Posted on 08/13/2011 8:13:47 AM PDT by onyx

While always open to the idea of one day supporting Sarah Palin for President, since 2008, I've gone back and forth on whether or not I thought it was smart for her to run next year. Re-visiting my thoughts yesterday, what with Palin's appearance in Iowa, not only am I convinced she should run, she needs to run and, regardless of one's preferred candidate, all Conservatives should encourage her to run and welcome her into the race, assuming she does.

Put aside the purely Republican primary politics of it for a moment. Also, I'm not endorsing her, or anyone at this point. But what happened in Iowa yesterday was electric, not just for any Palin faithful, but for many Conservatives and especially the media. For better, or worse, Sarah Palin has star power - whatever that is. But she does have it; that's for sure.

TRENDING: Palin swarmed at Iowa State Fair

Palin has two critical qualities, unique in that they combine in her. Beholden to no one, without fear, or restraint,  Palin articulates today's conservatism in a prudent, positive and cogent manner. More than that, the media, while much of it both loves and hates her, conveys her message to an audience far more broadly than they do for any other contemporary politician. I suspect, no matter who ultimately secures the 2012 Republican nomination, that will always be the case.

We are at a pivotal time in our American history. The future of this great nation is at stake as two competing ideologies prepare to go head-to-head in electoral competition come November 2012. It is absolutely critical for a genuine conservative voice to be heard and heard as widely across America as is possible. Whether you support, or ultimately vote for Sarah Palin, or not, I would encourage my fellow conservatives to think in these terms.

With no intention of demeaning a potential Palin candidacy, nor suggesting that the only purpose she could serve is as a conservative spokesperson, of sorts, - I do believe she would be a viable candidate - that she can play such a critical roll at such a crucial time in American politics is a fact not to be ignored by any conservative.

If you believe in conservatism and that it can win national elections in America, as I do, Sarah Palin's abilities to both speak out fearlessly and plainly for conservatism, while generating increased media interest in, not just herself, but the other candidates and the primary as a whole, would be of significant benefit for all on the Right. As we prepare to campaign and politically fight for the future of America in November of 2012, as things stand today, because of that, we should all encourage her to run and welcome her into the race if she does ... for that reason alone, if no other right now.

Who do you support?

That might the a meaningful contribution to this thread.

Parroting DU talking points, not so much.

“It would be a disaster if she ran.”

That remains to be seen. I doubt she would get more than 30-40% of the vote, merely because the hit job the left has done has largely worked, on many independents. To the enitre left she is toxic. And the fact remains that many conservatives will not vote for a woman for moral reasons. However, that shouldn’t stop anyone from supporting her who see’s fit. Furthermore, there is enough hatred of Obama that virtually anyone should be able to win, unless the voter fraud is so rampant that no one could win (most probable).

“She ended her career when she resigned as Gov.”

I doubt that would have any effect. Those who understand why she resigned won’t be affected, and those who don’t, won’t care about facts anyway.

Lol you’re funny.

You want a nominee that quits when the media and Rat snoops treat her unfairly? What exactly do you think they will do if she is elected?

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. I’ll presume you are answering in chronological order, and will get to mentioning who you support in a moment?.. :D

She quit because of the personal lawsuits against her that were bankrupting her, not because the media treated her unfairly.

“What exactly do you think they will do if she is elected?”

Do as they have done to every conservative (or even non Super lefty) for the last 100 years or so, try and ruin her. Nothing is new about that.

My opinion is unchanged. Anyone that believes that it is a thoughtful intellectual stance to attach oneself to one non-candidate at this point and state that no one else will do is not using the brain that God gave them and is not giving the rest of the field (that has declared) the respect they deserve for standing up and being counted.

If Palin gets in, she will be weighed. She will be measured. Heck, I might even support her. At this point supporting her for POTUS makes as much sense as supporting you for POTUS since neither of you are currently seeking the position.

Who do you support?

Bachmann is my first choice.

Parroting DU talking points, not so much.

Pretty weak, Palin supporters can't argue facts so they come back with a baseless charge to quiet the opposition.

“It must get lonely up in your ivory tower looking down on all of us inferior beings who happen to believe in Sara Palin.”

Hey, I “believe in” (whatever that means)Sarah palin as well....I just don’t slobber on her pumps.

FR overall likes Sarah.
But she does have her detractors here, which befuddles me.
I thought this was a conservative site.
Some of the Palin comments/attacks are something right out of DU. Never mind the immature personal attacks on Palin supporters that we endure.

I look at all the prospective candidates through a conservative lens. I want the most conservative person to be our nominee. That doesn't seem to be everyone’s agenda here. Be prepared to deal with the wrath if you dare point out another candidates weak or faux conservative credentials.

” Anyone that believes that it is a thoughtful intellectual stance to attach oneself to one non-candidate at this point and state that no one else will do...”

It’s a a sports fan mentality. It’s a simple part of life and doesn’t really matter. Some people pick their pony root for the person they want, others make decisions based on other criteria. I’ve found that it not only doesn’t matter how you feel about the pony pickers, but that it doesn’t matter how they feel about you. It doesn’t matter whether you find what your looking for and bet on it, or bet on the looking and find (or accept) what you want.

Washington didn’t want to run either.

That’s amazing the crowd she draws when she’s not even a candidate yet. Run Sarah Run. Your army awaits your orders.

“Palin supporters can’t argue facts...”

No, they’re just tired of doing it.

“...so they come back with a baseless charge to quiet the opposition.”

That’s common in virtually any argument.

And the fact remains that many conservatives will not vote for a woman for moral reasons.

I've never seen this.

...there is enough hatred of Obama that virtually anyone should be able to win,...

It's not hatred. He is the worst President this country has ever had. His response to every problem has made the problems worse. He can't lead and won't surround himself with people who know how to get things done.

Don't fool yourself that he can't win. The media will go nuts in supporting him and he will have the money to flood the airwaves with his propaganda.

It is also the first indicator that it's someone to not waste time with.

“Does it matter if we win this election?”

You mean from an existential viewpoint?

There are so many ways to answer that question, I don’t think I’ll go there.

“(whatever that means]” You’re the one who claims intellectual superiority, figure it out. Also,I stand WITH Gov Palin.Big difference in that and slobbering. You can support whomever you want, but trying to tell those of us who support Palin that we are somehow stupid makes you look pretty dang ignorant and condescending.

Not really.

The “quitter” meme has been on the DU talking points fax - not to mention the mittens’ - all along.

Bachmann is awesome, agreed. As may be Perry, Cain and even some combination including Ron Paul somewhere in a new administration.

Ed Rollins style Alinsky criticisms directed at others’ preferred candidates, isn’t quite as awesome.
