Pregnant Pacifica woman killed by family pit bull

PACIFICA -- A pregnant Pacifica woman was found dead by her husband today after an apparent attack by a family pit bull, police said.

The 32-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was killed in her home on the 500 block of Reina del Mar, said Capt. Dave Bertini, a Pacifica police spokesman.

The woman's husband told police that he had arrived home from work around noon and found one of the couple's two pit bulls standing over his wife's body. He was able to get the dog into the backyard before police arrived a few moments later.

Attempts to revive the woman were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the investigation was under way, Bertini said, the dog got loose from the yard and charged at officers who were stationed outside. They fired three shots at the pit bull, killing it.

He’s one of the most beautiful dogs I’ve ever seen, especially when he goes bounding through the high grass...Looks like he should be on the cover of a magazine. He’s also very gentle.

I was speaking of something called Springer rage. My brother is a veterinarian and he took me in to the back of his kennel to show me a dog that he said had Springer rage. It was without a doubt the most beautiful Springer Spaniel I had ever seen but it was trembling with rage. He had to do some kind of surgery on it and he wasn't sure how he and
his employees were going to handle the dog.

I would not stick my bare hands in any big dogs mouth...hit them on the nose cartilage is probably more effective

they bite so quick ...you would get chewed up

you can get them to lock onto something not fatal...like a pants leg...maybe

I have never been dog attacked...folks I know who deal with many big uncut aggressive male dogs...say a camp of hog hunting bullies...you’ve seen them on TV..with the neck guards...chasing down big hogs in SC or GA

those guys keep prods or axe handles or of course guns

if you have ever seen two dogs lock up...any bulldog locks up fighting...unless it’s the throat it’s not often fatal..between bullies that is

you have to pull them apart literally...you tie up the legs of each

and then water or prod them...in the heat of fight they can bite you too

this is not dog whisperer stuff and I would not have a child walk around unsupervised into a pack of 120 pound hog hunting performance bulldogs...nor would I have one laying around unsupervised an attack trained guard dog of any kind

but thwarting a pit bull attack bare handed is a tall order...nigh impossible for a small person

I am a big man, resounding voice and presence...dogs respect me..all well and good...I just know my way around them usually...many years of it...but with children or fearful adults it can be a whole new game...and dogs pick it up...some women can handle big dogs too...my ex girlfriend handled our big Rott boy...uncut and he saved her life from rape and possible murder from home invader.

My big male bully...gone hunting where he is better suited...was very protective of my wife and viewed her as a female..like big uncut males do..shamlessly but he adored her..not fear but love and protective..only time he snarled at me was once when I swatted her bare arse when she walked by in her dressing room..she of course thought he ruled the roost

Did? Did what? Kill it's owner like the pit bull? Each of those stories is of a dog attacking and injuring a stranger. In not one did the victim die. Besides, how can you say "the only one we hear about" when you pulled each story from a newspaper's website?

Well, I was referring to the hip-hop and trailer trash who need big dogs to impress their peeps and their betters. You may get as exercised as you want about it but your efforts would be better spent finding the shift, comma and period keys on your keyboard.

These jokes just write themselves sometimes. I used the term “four-legged penis extension” to differentiate from the “four-wheeled” kind, which usually does mean a Porsche. An observation which is not original to me.

...seriously though...I understand some folks like lap dogs like some folks love cats...it's ok...but some of us...especially down here and not just white trash or black trash..like guard and serious sporting dogs...I just don't get lap dogs...either guard or maybe a nice quail or duck dog...blood dog for deer comes in handy too

It this case it fits perfectly with near 100% accuracy. Eliminating the breeders of vicious dogs does nothing to the existing population of vicious dogs.

Always a good dog, never showed signs of aggression before, well behaved, blah blah blah blah. I am beginning to find it hard to have any sympathy for these ignorant a$$es that get these beasts. I feel immense remorse for the innocent baby that died because his father had to have a Pit due to SPS.

I wonder what the real statistics are. How many are actually attacked, bitten but it is never reported. I am sure it is hundreds of times more than what you hear in the news.

Funny...I’ve had Dobes for 37 years *and* used to have a Porsche.

Although some hillbillies do keep ‘lap dogs’, our innate frugality and sense of purpose generally inclines us towards a dog who can earn its keep, somehow.

Currently, the breed I most covet is the Plott Hound.
