White House press secretary Jay Carney defends President Obama's upcoming 10 day trip to Martha's Vineyard. Carney is asked why the President is taking such a vacation when he constantly says he "will not rest" until the jobs issue is resolved. Here is the exchange:
Jake Tapper, ABC News: "You said the President will not rest until the joblessness and the economy are worked out, but the President is obviously going on vacation. But I was wondering, Is there any concern -- I understand that it takes two to tango in Washington. We went over that the other day. You need the Congress to be in Washington. We went over that the other day about whether or not you guys should call Congress to come back. Is there any concern about the impression that the President going to Martha's Vineyard for 9 or 10 days might leave on the American people? And also, if this is such an important issue for Speaker Boehner, for Harry Reid, for President Obama, why the R&R?"
Jay Carney, WH press secretary: "There are a couple of questions embedded in that. Let me go to acknowledge, that, yes, the President does plan to travel with his family at the end of August to Martha's Vineyard as he has in the past. And I don't think Americans out there would begrudge that notion that the President would spend some time with his family. It is also, as I think anyone who has covered in the past, either in this administration or others, there is no such thing as a presidential vacation.

Gmta. I was just thinking how every member of the press corpse nodded their heads in agreement whenever they were reminded that Bush continued to do the work of POTUS, even when he was at Crawford. They always described those at ‘working vacations’, and they never criticized him for leaving the WH.

Check out the comments to that piece. last time I checked there was not a single post defending Obama. Usually, there are at least a handful of libs complaining about Drudge readers hijacking the comments with hate. Not this time, every despises this guy now.

Na...I don’t think he ever gave 8 hours to any ‘job’ in his life.
True. I remember every year President Bush went out of Washington for six weeks to him home in Texas and they would cry like a baby. It was not President Bush’s fault that Congress recesses for six weeks every year. He went back to his home. Perhaps if the Obamas went back to Chicago to their home there it would not be a big deal. They are right that the President never really takes a vacation. They are always getting updated on tons of topics throughout the day.

Congratulations, I guess every American that wants a job now has one. Way to make it happen BHO. Now go on vacation and lets see lots of picture of you and Michelle eating hamburgers, french fries, and your beloved ice cream.
One other thing to note. How many times has Barry implied that Congress is out on vacation ignoring the nations problems. Congress is in recess not on vacation. Sure, some of them may be on vacation. But many of them are back in their districts conducting town halls and getting in touch with their constituents. Finding out the pulse of their constituients. They actually are working!!
If I had things my way Obama would be on vacation for the rest of his term. Think of how much less damage he’d do.
That was a true statement prior to the current administration. I'm not so sure, now.
And my guess is that those at WH know full well it don’t look good the Obamas on vacay all the time.
But if the Puppet Masters don’t let them, they will be guaranteed to behave so unpleasantly and they become uncontrollable that it would be a lesser risk for them to go to Martha’s Vineyard.
