What I don’t get is .. if these ‘youth’ are so poor, despondent, hopeless, jobless, yada yada yada .. how can afford not only the Blackberries but the monthly service charge (in US it’s @ $30/mo just for the data package on top of the basic wireless rates)?
Isn't it one of fundamental human rights in Europe?

Obviously those "yobs" (rioters) don't have much of an ability to contribute, so they don't need to work. On the other hand, they have a few needs that the society must satisfy.
I guess the Cold War with USSR was much easier - the enemy was distant and well marked. Now you have Communists in charge of major countries of the West.
